Peacemaker, starring John Cena, is a superhero action comedy adventure. Its first season premiered on Jun 19, 2025, on HBO Max, and it was well-received. DC fans loved the show because it effectively mixed dark comedy and action with a heart. The audience also loved Cena’s portrayal of the titular lead because he perfectly pulled off the layered character. Cena made Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, funny and vulnerable. Gunn successfully added his signature elements that madeGuardians of the Galaxya fan-favorite in the show. Gunn, who directedPeacemaker, just shared a significant update about the show.
The DC Studios co-chairman took to X, formerly Twitter, and dropped new footage forPeacemakerSeason 2. The short clip features Cena’s Peacemaker seemingly in the middle of chaos, with some explosion in the background. However, he still manages to smirk and give the camera a thumbs-up. The scene cuts into him running and jumping between two buildings. Then it cuts again to Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brook) inside a vehicle telling someone, presumably Peacemaker, “You’re a superhero now.” However, aside from the incredible footage, Gunn also announced the second season’s release date. According to theSupermandirector, they just finished digital intermediate (DI) and mix on the second season’s premiere episode and it’s one of his “favorite things ever.” Then he added:

Gunn has been dropping teasers forPeacemakerSeason 2 on social media. For instance, in October 2024, he shared aphoto of a mysterious charactersitting in front of a camper. However, only his back is visible to the camera. Gunn asked fans, “Who might this be?” He also teased that Rick Flag Sr. will be joining Season 2. Frank Grillo, who voiced Rick Flag Sr. character inCreature Commandosis expected to have an encounter with Peacemaker. In TheSuicide Squadmovie, Peacemaker kills Rick Flag under orders from Amanda Waller to protect a government secret. However, the incident emotionally impacted Peacemaker, leaving him filled with guilt and inner conflict, as shown inPeacemakerSeason 1. In a previous interview, Grillo was asked who would win if his Rick Flag Sr. and Cena’s Peacemaker would have a face-off. Grillo said it would be a “close” fight, but he bet on his character because ”Flag is a little smarter.” Grillo added that “the smart guy wins.”
The return ofPeacemakeris one of the things DC fans have been looking forward to. Many are thrilled that it has an official release date because, for a long time, they have been wondering when the second season will see the light of day. The excitement springs from a lot of things they want to be answered in Season 2. Fans want to witness Peacemaker’s emotional journey and growth from the first season. They want to know if Peacemaker is okay after hallucinating about his dead father after he killed the latter. Many are also excited to seePeacemaker with his gang— Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Adebayo (Brooks), and John Economos (Steve Agee) — because of their chemistry. Fans are looking forward to how the team will work together after surviving the massive alien invasion in Season 1. Some are also interested in Peacemaker’s relationship with Emilia. There are a lot of things that fans want to be addressed in Season 2 and everyone is excited about its premiere.
