Dead by Daylightis one of the top dogs in the asymmetrical horror genre. A lot of other titles have tried to compete with the multiplayer scare fest, butDead by Daylighthas remained one of the most notable games of its kind. One of the reasons it’s maintained such longevity all these years is because of its continuous high-profile crossovers with horror heavy-hitters.
From collaborating with fellow horror games, likeResident Evil, to film icons, likeScream’s Ghostface,Dead by Daylighthas maintained its status as a strong offering for longtime horror lovers who also enjoy playing with friends. After nine years, it’s easy for games to grow stale, and whileDead by Daylighthas faced its ups and downs, 2025 actually might be one of the best times for players to either return to the game or jump in for the first time.
Opening the Horror Anime and Manga Floodgates
Anime and manga have diverse offerings of flavors to choose from, but when it comes to horror, these mediums can be a great platform for terrifying imagery to be imagined. Thankfully,Dead by Daylighthas noticed the potential of such crossovers. Junji Ito is one of the most iconic names in manga horror, andtheDead by DaylightKillers based on his workkicked the year off strong.
The visuals created by Junji Itoover the years are truly terrifying, and for those who have been waiting for his work to be featured in a video game,Dead by Daylightfinally makes that happen. The beginning of the year showcasedDead by Daylight’s interest in featuring Japanese horror, and April has brought even more to the table withTokyo Ghoul.
Tokyo GhoulprotagonistKen Kaneki was recently added toDead by Daylightas a Killer, which is fascinating, considering that he’s actually the main character of the show. However, his Ghoul half still makes him a great option to be an antagonist inDead by Daylight, flipping the series on its head. Now that the likes of Junji Ito andTokyo Ghoulhave had their own crossovers, it will be intriguing to see if 2025 brings even more manga or anime icons to the game. These crossovers are exciting enough, but developer Behaviour Interactive’s plans to fine-tune the game are also a solid reason to try it this year.
Dead by Daylight’s new Blood Moon event is also currently underway. The event began on April 7 and lasts until April 29.
Behaviour Interactive is Working on Making Some Characters More Accessible
One ofDead by Daylight’s most difficult Killers to both control and survive against, the Skull Merchant, is set to get a rework, which promises more accessibility to players. Although nothing has been confirmed, this could mark the start of a series of Killer reworks that could ultimately make the game more satisfying to play. Back in February, Behaviour Interactive made an official blog post that teased two separate phases ofDead by Daylight’s planned updates this year, meaning more fixes are bound to be on the way.
Phase 1 runs from April to June, while Phase 2 runs from July to December.
Dead by Daylightmay be almost a decade old, but its developer’s willingness to update and address certain issues through the years has helped keep players on board. Plans for the rest of the year are currently being kept mostly under wraps, so for those who have been interested in returning to the multiplayer horror offering, 2025 is a good time to do so.
