TheStar Warssequel trilogy is divisive, to say the least. But while it might be true thatThe Force Awakensleans into being an homage too much, thatThe Last Jedifeels retroactively out of place, andThe Rise of Skywalkertried its best to please everyone and, in doing so, pleased no one, that doesn’t mean the entireStar Warssequel trilogy should be left in the dust.

Just like the divisive prequel trilogy before it, theStar Warssequels are home to plenty of moments that are still going to be remembered fondly years from now, whether it’s Rey and Kylo’s fight on Starkiller Base, Luke Skywalker’s final moments with Leia, or Lando Calrissian making his triumphant return. All that’s to say that the sequel trilogy shouldn’t and, no matter how hard some try, can’t be erased. Instead,Star Warsshould embrace this era in new ways, and fill in some of the gaps left in the timeline. That should all begin witha newStar Wars Battlefrontgame.

A Star Wars Battlefront Game Focused on The Resistance-First Order War Could Do Some Heavy Lifting

There’s Still a Lot Fans Don’t Know About The First Order

Star Wars' Galactic Civil War era(now officially referred to as the Reign of the Empire and Age of Rebellion) has been fleshed out countless times since the original trilogy’s conclusion in 1983. Novels, comics, video games, TV shows, and now even more movies have continued to thoroughly explore the fall of the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic, and the rise of the Empire.

The sequel trilogy hasn’t really gotten the same treatment.Star Wars: The Force Awakensbegins withthe First Orderalready at the height of its power, and somehow secretly in possession of a planet-turned-superweapon that’s roughly four times the size of the first Death Star. The New Republic is seemingly unaware of the First Order’s prominence, or is intentionally ignoring its existence, so much so that Leia Organa needs to lead a small army of Resistance fighters to battle the new threat.

That’s about all the context movie-goers are given for theStar Warssequel trilogy. Of course, there have been plenty of comics and novels that have explored certain aspects of the era, such as Kylo Ren’s origin and path to the Dark Side, and Poe Dameron’s journey to becoming a hero of the Resistance, but there’s still a lot of big-picture story stuff that’s been left out of mainstreamStar Warsmedia. Those big gaps in mainstream knowledge have led to the era feeling a little weak.

A New Star Wars Battlefront Could Fill in Those Gaps

This is where a newStar Wars Battlefrontgame could swoop in and give some much-needed context to the sequel trilogy’s setting. EA’sStar Wars Battlefront 2teasedthe beginnings of the New Republic and the Resistancewith its campaign, but it didn’t do much to flesh out the era.

A newBattlefrontcampaign focused on the sequel trilogy could finally give fans a clear overview ofthe Resistance and First Order war, how each faction started, how their war began, and how it ultimately led to events inStar Wars: The Force Awakensand beyond. A project like this could go a long way in making this relatively newStar Warsera feel much more robust, at least to those who don’t read the wealth ofStar Warsnovels and comics out there.
