Summary

Fans have been looking forward to seeing Jason Momoa’s official look as Lobo inSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The man behind Momoa’s recent viral Lobo photo clarified the story behind it.

Momoa has been known as Arthur Curry, akaAquaman, in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He portrayed the King of the Seven Seas in two films —Aquaman(2018) andAquaman and the Lost Kingdom(2023). James Gunn and Peter Safran decided to restructure it and reboot projects underDC Universe(DCU). Momoa is the first lead from the DCEU to join the DCU. However, he plays another character — this time, he portrays the notable antagonist, Lobo. Although his character in DCU departs from his superhero role in the DCEU, Momoa is happier because playing Lobo is a dream come true. TheA Minecraft Moviestar said Lobo was his favorite character from the DC Comics. With Momoa finally playing his dream role and fans wanting to see him in character, some have seemingly taken advantage of it by leaking fake photos of him as Lobo.

A few days ago, photos of Momoa from theSupergirlset leaked online. He looks like Lobo in the shots, considering his makeup and big bike. However, the man behind it, Randy Hernández, admitted on Facebook that the pictures were not legitimate and that he had only created them using artificial intelligence (AI). According to him, he shared the photos with a particular group, and some media pages started picking them up, assuming they were real. One page shared it without taking the time to validate whether it was genuine. Hernández wrote on Facebook, translated from Spanish by The Direct:

The truth behind Jason Momoa’s Lobo on set… Well, it was me, I uploaded the image to this group and the main page of DC Latin America didn’t validate it and they uploaded it hahaha and well, many media outlets have already talked about it (Proof at the end of the post).

The snap was also shared onRedditand fans had mixed reactions after seeing them. Some were convinced it was real because Momoa had just announced he wrapped up filming his part forSupergirl. Others were concerned because they realized it was difficult to tell whether the snaps were real or not. A few observed some elements that made them realize the shots were possibly done using AI because they noticed that the Steadicam appeared to be floating. Another suggested that the snaps were similar toFast X’s promotional photos but with AI alterations. Last weekend, a video from theSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowset leaked online. The short clip featuresMilly Alcock and Momoa rocking their costumes. However, it was taken from a distance that it was difficult to see the intricate details of their outfits, including their makeup.

The interest in seeing Momoa’s official Lobo look is understandable. Fans just want to see him in his dream role. Also, the actor has been teasing about his appearance in theSupergirlmovie. According to him,DCU’s Lobo is “pretty dead on"and “exactly like the character” from the comics. Momoa had been very excited about his DCU role that he nearly showed his official look to Cinemablend in one interview. He said he had a picture and got his phone to show it. However, his publicist discouraged him from doing it. “You were that close to the scoop bro,” Momoa joked. Gunn saw the interview and thanked Momoa’s publicist onThreadfor stopping him from leaking his official look. Gunn already said that it would take some time before they would officially release Momoa’s official Lobo appearance.
