Theclassic ’90s first-person shooterhas recently received a new update, which rolled out to all platforms in late April 2025. The changelog attached to the Steam version of the patch numbers 42 items, ranging from quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes to audio enhancements and even some combat tweaks, among other novelties. Overall, the patch appears to be largely focused on authenticity—tweaking the remaster with the goal of getting it even closer in line with the 1997 original.
In terms of specific changes, the latest version of the game allows players to customize the line thickness generated by the game’s automapping system, which has also been tweaked in order to start rendering lines as quadrangles. Additionally, the update resolves some syncing issues related to theVulkan graphics API, and reworks some game logic with the goal of minimizing previously identified instances of stuttering.
The new update brings several changes specific to the PC version, including a smarterSteam Workshop modselection menu that is no longer cluttered with maps from mods the user hasn’t installed. Additionally, alt-tabbing out ofTurokor unfocusing its window by any other means will now pause the game’s rendering. Nightdive used this release to further improve the remaster’s moddability, introducing bug fixes and new features to its existing modding scripts. The developer also fixed an issue preventing the cheats for tiny enemies with big heads from working correctly for bosses and Turok. On a similar note, both Gallery and Credits cheats are now disabled outside the title screen.
New Turok Update Is Largely Based on Community Feedback
Although theTurokremaster had long stopped receiving regular updates, this late April release actually marks its second patch in 2025. The previous update, introduced at the end of February, transitioned the game to the latest build of Nightdive’s Kex Engine, version 4.0. While that upgrade had been in the works for some time, the new patch was not planned far in advance. Instead, it is entirely informed by recent community feedback, Nightdive Studios said.
