One Piece Fans Are Not Happy With The Two Newest Episodes
Toei Makes Unnecessary Changes to Sanji’s Parts of the Story
One Piecefans have not been too happy with the most recent episodes, notably episodes 1123 and 1124 which marked the return of theOne Pieceanime after a 6 month long break.
These episodes were supposed to hype up the fans after such a long break, but many fans were unhappy with how Toei was handling the anime. Although the animation quality is stunning and deserves praise of its own, the adaptation of theOne Piecemanga hasn’t been faithful. Sometimes, fans have noted Toei adding unnecessary content for no reason, while at other times it impacts the story and doesn’t make any sense.
What upset fans most recently in these episodes is how the character of Sanji, a fan favorite, was handled. Sanji’s fight against S-Shark, where he rushes to save Nami in the manga, was totally flipped and Nami was shown saving him in the end with her bubble gun. Sanji was also madeto have hearty eyes for Bonney, a character Oda specifically chose to not make Sanji have any romantic attraction to, when that never happened in the manga.
One Piece Fans Have Also Brought Up Old Mishandling of the Anime From Toei
Fans are definitely upset at what Toei has done to Sanjiin the anime, however, this isn’t the first or the last time that Toei has modified the events of the manga.
The anime previously also made Sanji struggle against S-Shark, prior to these new episodes, which never took place in the manga and was most definitely an upsetting and bizarre choice.
The anime also ruined one of Zoro’s most important scenes, which is the reveal of his Conqueror’s Haki. In the anime, they made Zoro unleash his Conqueror’s Haki against random enemies far before he was supposed to. This unnecessary addition ruined his real Conqueror’s Haki reveal, where it didn’t even serve as a surprise anymore.
In the same arc, fans also saw Prometheus diving into the ocean to save Big Mom. For those who don’t know, Prometheus is a sun homie, and water is his weakness. He would’ve died if he fell in the water. At some points, it feels like the scriptwriters don’t even know the characters they’re dealing with, which is a shame.
The anime also messed up the cover story which involved the Big Mom Pirates, specifically the character of Cracker, with the Blackbeard Pirates, notably Van Augur and Kuzan. The anime made Van Augur one-shot Cracker’s Biscuit Soldiers, which is nonsensical, as those Biscuit soldiers were stronger than Gear 4. Yet, the same Van Augur couldn’t even get past Jean Bart on Winner Island.
Recently, in Egghead, the anime also made the odd choice to lighten the skin color of S-Snake, who is noticeably lighter than the other Serpahims, for no real reason. This and the constant sexualization of young characters like Bonney when it never took place in the manga, is rather bizarre.
The One Piece Anime Is Only An Adaptation
Fans Should Not Harass The Staff
While the changes in the adaptation are certainly not the best, fans should remember that the anime and manga are separate entities, and Oda has said he lets the anime team handle it and he does his own thing.These choices made by Toei are definitely controversial, but they should never lead fans to harass artists or anyone who works on the anime as decisions like these are not fueled by agendas. Animators in Japan are already suffering under harsh conditions.
