What was The Wheel of Time Season 3 all about?
The third season ofThe Wheel of Timebegan with an epic fight between the Aes Sedai in the White Tower. Liandrin wanted to dethrone Siuan for knowing about the Dragon Reborn, while Siuan wanted everyone to know about Liandrin’s relationship with the Dark One. However, Liandrin and some of her supporters were able to flee from the city and came to be known as the Black Ajahs. Meanwhile, Moiraine made a deal with Lanfear about testing Rand al’Thor’s powers and whether he can control them. As a result, Lanfear will create certain roadblocks in his journey so that he is better prepared for the biggest battle of his life. The entire group was divided into three parties and left for their respective places.
Perrin and co. went to Two Rivers, whileRand, Moiraine, al’Lan, Egwene, and Aviendha went to the Aiel Waste. On the other hand, Nynaeve, Elayne, and Mat stayed in the city. Throughout seven episodes, Rand went through several obstacles to make it to Rhuidean, where he learnt about his ancestors and his destiny. Conversely, Moiraine learnt about her destiny as well, and in most of the scenarios, Lanfear killed her. In the meantime, Nynaeve, Elayne, Mat, and Min reached Tanchico to confront Liandrin. The Black Ajahs made their way into Tanchico to find a remaining bracelet and a collar that could help them in defeating the Dragon Reborn. But they are not alone, a forsaken named Moghedien is also present there and keeping an eye on both parties. Fortunately, Nynaeve and the party got their hands on one of the bracelets and kept it hidden. However, Moghedien used her powers to get that bracelet from them.
Elsewhere, Perrin led the residents of Two Rivers to a war against the Trollocs and also fought Padan Fain. During the battle preparations, Alanna found that Mat’s sisters were actually channelers and trained them to use their powers during the battle. As the battle came to an end, the people of Two Rivers were able to defeat the Trollocs, with the help of Maksim, Faile, Loial, Chiad, and Bain. However,at the end of the battle, he is taken by the White Cloaks for the light’s justice.
In the final episode of Season 3, Rand is ready for a trial in front of the other Aiel clans and their chiefs. But Lanfear is doing everything and anything to stop that. Rand finally knows about Lanfear’s true intentions and pushes her away. On the other hand, Nynaeve, Mat, Elayne, and Min are finding the collar, and they need to find it before Liandrin finds it because Moghedien has given her the second bracelet. All she needs now is a collar. While searching, Thom tells Elayne the truth about himself and how he was tasked to save her life when she was little. Moreover, he tells Elayne that Gabriel is one of the forskaen. Consequently, Nynaeve gets her hands on the collar and keeps her inside her bag, but Liandrin notices it and uses her power to throw her in the sea. But Nynaeve uses her own powers to get out of the situation.
How did The Wheel of Time Season 3 end?
In the ending moments of the finale, a search party from the White Tower reaches the woods and tells some of the members of the Red Ajahs to come back. However, they make it clear that they won’t come back, and the Amyrlin Seat cannot tell them not to do their duty. When Verin asks them about what duty they were talking about, the Red Ajahs say that they want to keep them (Verin and group) out of the tower. Why? Elaida is trying to overthrow Siuan from the throne and sit in the Amyrlin seat. Siuan enters the hall and sees Elaida sitting on the throne, and she already has a new keeper. From the beginning of the season, Elaida has been trying to remove Siuan from the seat, and in the starting few minutes of the finale, viewers saw how Siuan won the seat ten years ago. In the present day, Siuan is outnumbered, and Elaida begins voting to claim the throne. Furthermore, she accused Siuan of being a Dark Friend and working with the Shadow to hide the Dragon’s existence. Elaida links with other Aes Sedai to attack Siuan and make her powerless.
In the Aiel,Rahvin and Lanfear see how Moghedienkilled Sammael. Lanfear tells Rahvin that he needs to pick a side, and makes it clear that he needs to be on her side or else, Moghedien will kill him too. Rahvin understood that Rand refused Lanfear’s assistance and pushed him away, but Lanfear says that she is ready to kill the Dragon Reborn. However, when the time came for the trial and the introduction to the Dragon Reborn, Sevanna, one of the leaders of the Shaido clan, revealed that Couladin was the Dragon Reborn. Shockingly, he showed that he had those “dragon” drawings on both of his wrists, which meant that he wanted to go to Rhuidean and passed the trial there. So, that’s what Lanfear gave him earlier in the tent. Rand doesn’t waste any time telling the people of Aiel how their ancestors sent them to the Wetlands to find the Dragon Reborn, and they were sent to find him, claiming that he was the real Car’a’Carn.
At the White Tower, an injured Siuan finally gets up and sees Elaida being recognized at the Amyrlin Seat. She asks Siuan to tell the truth, and Siuan confesses her love for Moiraine, who is forming a shield over the area where Rand is trying to unite the Aiel. She knows Lanfear would come for her, and that’s the only way they could stop her. Siuan makes it clear that she won’t tell where Moiraine is and would die to protect her. She tells the entire court that twenty years ago, Gitara Sedai saw that the Dragon was reborn, and when she made that claim, Moiraine and she were present there. Meanwhile, things are getting heavy at Aiel as Rand tells everyone what he saw in the Rhuidean and how he saw his past through the eyes of his ancestors. Elsewhere, Lanfear attacks Moiraine just like she saw in one of her visions in Rhiudean. Not everyone is happy with Rand’s move to tell everyone about his visions, but he doesn’t stop. Although their clan chief tries to stop him, Rand believes that he was born to do this, and asks everyone if they’d follow the way of the leaf. He calls them “oathbreakers,” and it looks like they turned against each other by listening to Rand. Meanwhile, Moiraine is struggling against Lanfear.
At the White Tower, Siuan makes it clear that they are not the most powerful beings in the world anymore and are not in control. She asks everyone if they’ll stand behind Elaida, a woman who stands for nothing. Siuan refuses to bow down; as a result, she is sentenced to “death” and killed by the keeper of the Amyrlin Seat. At the same time, Lanfear attacks Moiraine with a sword, and as soon as Moiraine realizes that Siuan is dead, she goes berserk and attacks Lanfear. She was very close to killing Lanfear, but she managed to run away.
The finale ofThe Wheel of TimeSeason 3ended with Rand showing Aiel his powers and using them to change the weather. It starts to rain, and this makes everyone believe that he is the real Car’a’Carn. Everyone is now united and will follow Rand. Egwene saw him and told him to stop, but he just looked at her.
