What Happens At The End Of The Pitt Season 1, Episode 15, “9:00 P.M.”?
At the end ofThe Pittseason 1, episode 15, “9:00 P.M,“Robby gives a speech to his team and addresses the PittFest mass shooting, which was the biggest medical crisis that they faced this season. He said:
“Today never should have happened. It’s the worst of humanity, but it brought out the best in the rest of us.”
Robby tells his staff that he’s proud of themand adds, “This place will break your heart” before tearing up. This moving moment is just one reason whyThe Pitthas so many fans, including Stephen King. Robby has been ignoring the trauma that he is still dealing with after losing his mentor, Dr. Adamson, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Big events like this mass shooting bring up those feelings, and while Robby hasn’t wanted to face the truth, he’s getting closer to reaching out for support. The real-time format of the showlets Robby focus on the crises at hand, but he also has to face his emotions.
Then, asthe day shift switches over the night shift, the main characters get ready to go home and decompress after the tragedies that have unfolded over the past nine hours. Victoria Javadi’s (Shabana Azeez) crush Mateo Diaz (Jalen Thomas Brooks) asks if she wants to hang out in the park across the street, which is what many of the healthcare workers do after their shift.
Next comes the two best moments ofThe Pittseason 1 finale. The tough but compassionate head nurse Dana Evans (Katherine La Nara)finds Robby staring at a wall of photos of doctors who passed away. She tells him Dr. Adamson’s death isn’t his fault. Then, Trinity Santos (Isa Briones) learns Denis Whitaker (Gerran Howell) is living upstairs and invites him to stay in her spare room as long as he cleans and fixes stuff. This isa charming bonding moment between the two characters, especially since Santos spent much ofThe Pittseason 1 being prickly with her new coworkers. Likethe Nathan Fillion proceduralThe Rookie,The Pittbalances sadness with humor, and it’s nice to see Santos joking around.
The Pittseason 1, episode 15 wraps up the most important storylines, and every moment is gripping, sad, uplifting, and realistic.Robby cries and faces his own griefwhen Jake Malloy (Taj Speights) blames him for his girlfriend Leah’s tragic death. Echoing the pilot episode, Robby goes onto the roof andchats with Dr. Jack Abbott, who encourages him to keep going despite the tough times. It’s amoving conversation about mental healthwhere both characters are honest and vulnerable. Abbott says he comes back to medicine because it’s in his “DNA” and tells Robby he “rocked” the shift. Robby and Abbott meet their coworkers in the park, where fans learn that Abbott lost his leg when he worked in combat medicine. Robby laughs, telling Javadi:
“I just realized this was your first shift.”
This hilarious scene isthe perfect ending toThe Pittseason 1.It lightens the mood and proves that the characters have to find moments of joy in their daily lives, despite the pain and suffering they witness. When Robby tells Javadi he knows other shifts will be easier, she says she hopes so, and he proves that he’s a genuine and compassionate leader and mentor.
How Does The Pitt Season 1, Episode 15, “9:00 P.M.” Set Up Season 2?
Fans have some unanswered questions leading intoThe Pittseason 2. One big one is,what will happen to Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball), and is Dana Evans leaving? It seems unrealistic to expect Langdon to be allowed to practice medicine again since he was caught stealing pills from the hospital. However, it would be terrible to lose Dana, who inspires and helps the hospital team every minute of every shift. It’s also unclear if Robby is going to reach out for some help with his PTSD. When Abbott offers him the name of his therapist, Robby seems open to talking to someone.
In an interview withVariety, Noah Wyle was asked if Dana is leavingThe Pitt. Wyle said:
“everybody’s fan favorites will most definitely be back. One of the things that’s very hard about having an ensemble of actors we really love is that we want everybody to come back.”
It’s always tough when a beloved character leaves, likewhen Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) leftNCIS, so hopefully Dana isn’t going anywhere. If season 1 is any indication, then the second season will feature just as many greatcharacter moments and heartbreaking medical casesthat are impossible to stop thinking about.
