Minato had to use the Reaper Death Seal to prevent Kurama from obliterating the Leaf Village, but the Nine-Tails decided to take out a crying Naruto to prevent this fate from befalling him.

Both Minato and Kushina didn’t even think twice, throwing themselves in front of Naruto to prevent their child from being killed. They used their final moments to give Naruto some valuable advice before sealing the Nine-Tails and dying with smiles on their faces, content with the fact that their child would live to see another day.
