Summary
The main cooperative multiplayer aspect ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet,Tera Raidsfeatures plenty of Pokemon for players to fight against for any number of rewards, including the “boss” Pokemon itself. While all the available Pokemon drop valuable items for players, and promoted Raids offer even better options, a select few Pokemon are far better than the rest.
One ofScarlet and Violet’smost valuable resources is the various flavors of Herba Mystica, which are primarily used to improve odds during shiny hunting. Out of the dozens of possible Tera Raid Pokemon, 15 have a higher chance of dropping multiple Herba Mysticas, of either the same flavor or varying flavors. In no particular order, these 5-Star Pokemon are a must for players in need of this precious sandwich ingredient.
16Gengar
The Original Ghost Pokemon
A specialized offensive powerhouse,Gengarmay not always have a STAB Tera type, but it will always present a challenge thanks to powerful moves like Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb.
With a small chance to drop any kind of Herba Mystica, it’s an easy choice to take Gengar down. Even with its presence as a hard-hitting Ghost and Poison-type, the general nature of Gengar leans more to the glass-cannon side of Pokemon, even with various tricks up its sleeve for applying status conditions and dropping defensive stats. Additionally, ever since Gengar lost the Levitate ability, claiming victory should be simple with any Tera type it has.
15Drifblim
High-Flying Raid Boss
One of the least threatening 5 Star Raid Pokemon,Drifblimoffers a shot for each type of Herba at the cost of annoying moves. More on the defensive side of the Pokemon spectrum, Drifblim’s Raids are often more of a marathon than a sprint.
With access to Will O Wisp, Thunder Wave, Hex, and Air Slash, players may be in for a tedious fight against this grim reaper air balloon. Overall, however, Drifblim isn’t much of a challenge for those who bring the correct Pokemon against whatever random Tera type it appears with, as opposed to picking Azumarill and hoping for the best.
14Amoonguss
A Useful Meme
Ever-reliant on the ever-powerful Spore,Amoongussis a solid Pokemonto hone in on when the random Tera type is weak to Grass. While there is no bad Tera type for Amoonguss to be, there is definitely an ideal choice.
The ideal scenario to fight an Amoonguss is with a Grass-type Pokemon, which makes the player immune to falling asleep to Spore, allowing quicker access to Herba. Beyond that, it can be helpful to bring Pokemon that focus on keeping their teammates healthy instead of focusing on damage-dealing, although brute-forcing through any status that Amoonguss can cause will also work.
13Palafin
Zero To Hero
WhilePalafincannot shift to its superhero form during a Tera Raid, it can still be a mild threat given the use of Rain Dance and Bulk Up. Without the benefits of going from “zero” to “hero,” it won’t be anything close to a challenge.
With access to Acrobatics and Liquidation, Palafin can hit reasonably hard, but with its stats not buffed without the form switch, it shouldn’t be a major challenge to take down. The trickiest thing about fighting Palafin is actually finding a Palafin listing without confusing it for Finizen.
12Eelektross
The Power Of Levitate
A Pokemon that always seems like a dual type,Eelektrossis another straightforward Raid boss, so long as the Tera type isn’t Electric. With strong special moves, ranging from Flamethrower to Discharge, this electric eel can be a serious threat to Pokemon weak to those powerful options.
With the ability Levitate, Eelektross is immune to Ground-type moves in the vast majority of circumstances. While it can still be damaged otherwise, the fight will certainly take a lot longer, as it cannot be affected bythe Electric-type’s one weakness.
11Glalie
Hoenn’s Hockey Mask
Glalieis easily one of the better options to fight in a Tera Raid, as its generally middling attack stats won’t be too much of a threat, and its generally limited movepool doesn’t change that either.
Even with Glalie setting up snowy weather, its Ice-type moves aren’t particularly strong, and the two physical moves, Crunch and Headbutt, are annoying, but potentially not powered-up by STAB. Glalie is easily identifiable in the Raid selection screen, and won’t be a problem no matter the ability, although Moody can cause problems thanks to the random but powerful nature of constant stat boosts.
10Cetitan
Ability Gamble
Introduced inScarlet and Violet,Cetitan’svarious abilities can spell out how challenging a battle will be. If Cetitan has Thick Fat and has a Tera type weak to Fire and Ice-type moves, the battle may drag on longer than normal, thanks to the damage reduction.
If Slush Rush is in play instead, Cetitan could be dealing damage much quicker than normal. In the strongest scenario, Cetitan has Sheer Force, which will make it an absolute threat with its damage output boosted.
9Dondozo
The Fish Boss
Much like Cetitan,Dondozo’sability can quickly decide just how effective the players participating in the Raid can be. Thanks to Unaware, Dondozo will completely ignore any stat changes the opposing Pokemon have, meaning that moves that boost attacks will be treated as if they’re untouched, and defensive boosts do nothing.
For certain Pokemon, like Annihilape, this isn’t much of a problem given how Rage Fist operates, but for the vast majority of Pokemon, an Unaware Dondozo can also mean fighting against the Raid timer to finish the battle.
8Lapras
Ice-Type Icon
One of the most beloved Generation 1 Pokemon, if not one of the most belovedPokemon in general,Laprasis a great choice to look for when picking Raids. Not especially known for being an attacker in any capacity, Lapras won’t be much of a direct threat.
While a defensive tank, Lapras shouldn’t be much of a challenge. That said, if it has the Water Absorb ability, it will be completely immune to Water-type attacks. Most types that are weak to Water have multiple weaknesses, so while this won’t derail a majority of strategies, it is definitely something players need to keep in mind.
7Basculegion
Ancient Menace
Introduced inLegends: Arceusand a Pokemon that required an unimaginable evolution method,Basculegionis one of the more interesting fish-based Pokemon around. Requiring the white-stripe form of Basculin to take at least 294 points of recoil damage, without fainting, to evolve, Basculegion in Raids are also a more convenient way to catch this antiquated monster.
With potentially dangerous abilities in Adaptability, which makes STAB moves hit harder, and Mold Breaker, which ignores the players' Pokemon’s abilities, Basculegion may be a tough boss to take down. On top of that, its mighty attack stat isn’t something to ignore.
