Summary

Therandom map generationsystem in7 Days to Diehas matured significantly over the years. Roads now generally lead somewhere, POIs are placed in a more organic-looking manner, and overall, the balance of biomes is pretty good. Going back just a handful of years, finding agood map seedfor7 Days To Diewas pretty vital, and could make the difference between an easy start and complete disaster.

These days, almost any map seed will result in a balanced, playable map, with biomes represented equally and a good mix of wilderness POIs, towns, and cities. However, with a little patience and experimentation, it is still possible to come up withmap seedsthat offer some unique benefits.

All of these seeds use the standard procedural generation settings; no advanced settings were changed.

6Four Forest Towns

Great For An Easy Start

This map seed is really good for the few days after a player has first spawned into the game map. It has more forest biome POIs than most map seeds, which means plenty of loot to be had, which will help players get established early on.

There are four towns in the forest biome, and each is of a decent size. For players who want to run level-one missions and gain a few levels whilstgathering suppliesfor later, these towns are great. However, it is probably worth changing the number of missions a player can do each day to around eight, as the standard four will be used up very quickly with so many mission POIs close together.

5Easy Cold Biome Access

Cities Close To The Edge Of The Cold Biome

New players to7 Days to Diecan struggle when moving up thebiome progression. Moving from the forest to the desert isn’t so bad, once players learn about those darn vultures. However, making the jump from the desert to the cold biome is a big step up; The cold biome is much more dangerous.

This map seed could be useful for players who have never touched the cold biome before, as it has several cities sitting quite close to the edge of the biome. One of the major risks of the cold biome is the indigenous life, such as bears, wolves, and the frozen lumberjack. Minimizing travel across the biome also minimizes the risk of bumping into these denizens, something that this seed is perfect for.

4Balanced Starting Biome

Four Towns In A Symmetrical Pattern In The Forest

This map seed is a great example of how spending some time trying different seeds to see what benefits they might give can pay off. This is the perfect map seed for new players, who will potentially spend the first couple of Blood Moon nights in the forest biome.

With four symmetrically placed towns, the player can build a basic Blood Moon base right in the middle of the map and then either run missions or simply loot all the POIs to gain a few levels and the resources needed to establish a basic horde base.

3Wasteland Wonderland

Three Large Wasteland Cities

Some7 Days to Dieplayers enjoy running missions instead of simply exploring the open-world map and looting POIs. For these players, this is a particularly good map seed. It has three big cities in the late game stage wasteland biome.

By default, players can only complete four missions a day in this map seed for them to count against trader progression, so it may be worth raising this limit to eight, as these cities are close together, have every level 4 and level 5 POI, and will make mission-running a much more streamlined experience.

2Massive Wasteland City

Great For End Game Content

This is an interesting map seed for7 Days to Die. It is great for both early-game survival and late-game content. The forest biome, where a new player will spawn, has four small towns, but it is the wilderness POIs that give a nice boost to players right at the start. There are many of these, and they are generally less risky to loot, with nothing but a wooden club at the start of a playthrough.

However, it is the massive wasteland city that is the best feature in this map seed. It is huge, almost running into a second, smaller city to the north. This means that all the level 5 mission POIs are available in one place on the map, which is great for mission running.

1Compact Wasteland

Perfect For Fast Mission Running

This is a fantastic late-game stage map seed for7 Days to Dieplayers for two reasons. Firstly, the wasteland biome is very compact and easy to traverse quickly. Secondly, a very high percentage of the area covered by thewasteland biomeis given over to cities, offering lots of opportunity for looting.

There is onehuge cityand three smaller cities, all within a densely packed wasteland biome. For players who enjoy running level 5 or 6 missions, this is a fantastic map seed. However, to get the most out of this seed, the number of missions that count towards trader progression should be changed to more than the default of four.
