Arthur’s New Training Arc
Surviving His Fall From the Cliff
At the end of episode 2 ofThe Beginning After The End,we see Arthur falling from a high cliffafter pushing his mom out of the way of a powerful wind magic attack. Although two members of the Twin Horns attempted to catch him, he unfortunately fell too fast to be saved. As his family and friends watched him fall, Arthur felt satisfied in his self-sacrifice but regretted not being able to live to see himself become an older brother.
“Oh, You’re Awake?” -Arthur hearing a mysterious voice after waking up.
However, to his surprise,Arthur finds that he is still aliveas he wakes up at the bottom of the cliff in a forest. In the manwha, after some time spent recovering, he hears a voice calling out to him, whom he initially mistakes for the corpse of the mage he killed. However, the voice reveals itself to be friendly and guides Arthur toward its location. After a bit of a trek and a tumble down a cavern, Arthur finds himself face to face with abeing clad in dark armor who calls herself Sylvia.
After some discussion, Arthur agrees to remain with her while she prepares a magic portal to send him back to his family, assuring him they are all okay. It is under Sylvia’s tutelage that Arthur has his mind opened to the possibilities of mana in this new world, starting with an essential mana ability that he had yet to conceive of.
Sylvia’s Surprise
Arthur Learning Magic Beast Mana Techniques
Over the next few months spent together, Sylvia appears surprised to learn that Arthur has already awakened his mana core despite being a human child.
“It was to my understanding that humans usually awaken around the age of twelve or thirteen. How have you formed your mana core, already able to utilize mana more efficiently than many full-fledged mages? -Sylvia speaking to Arthur.
Arthur brags that he is a genius mage, to which Sylvia, unfazed by his self-flattery, recommends a new mana ability for him to learn. This is an essential moment in Arthur’s magical growth, as before he relied completely on his past life’s knowledge of ki to make progress.
“Then perhaps you will be able to learn it. To meditate and absorb mana while moving, and perhaps while fighting if you’re good enough.” -Sylvia
Arthur is stunned to see Sylvia absorbing mana while moving, but Sylvia chastises him for his linear human thinking. This technique is something that mana beasts naturally learn to do, but it never occurs to humans because their mana cores awaken later in life. Arthur dedicates himself to the challenge, managing to successfully complete fighting movements while absorbing mana by the end of his stay with Sylvia.
“Practicing this skill to its fullest essentially meant being able to fight proficiently while still maintaining a steady inward flow of mana.” -Arthur while practicing moving while absorbing mana.
This underrated technique in Arthur’s arsenal is what allows him to outclass many of the opponents he comes up against completely. WhileThe Beginning After The Endmanhwa doesn’t focus much on the technique after this point, it allows Arthur to continually have mana at his disposal even while exhausting himself in a fight.
