Summary

The Beginning After The End Animeis creating lots of waves ever since its release, and tons of fans have noticed certain differences with the Web Novel and Manhwa that might affect future developments in the series. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that many things have changed in the adaptation.

Here are some of the thingsThe Beginning After The EndAnime changes from the Web Novel and Manhwa, and how these changes affect the story’s pacing, worldbuilding, and character development.

5The Pacing In The Childhood Arc Is Faster

Arthur’s Early Years Chapters Skip A Lot Of Important Details

It is possible that this is one of the most notorious changes in the series so far. While the Web Novel and Manhwa showcase Arthur’s childhood years in-depth, as well as his progress and development as an Emiter (magician) and Warrior while he trains using his past-life knowledge, the anime skips a great proportion of scenes and certain struggles of the infant Arthurwhile he is adapting to his new world.

Some scenes are extremely focused on humor instead of positive developments and how Arthur learned to love his new family, slowly diverting from his past brooding self, and becoming a more amicable person. Those are critical points in the MC’s development that the anime doesn’t show.

4Arthur’s Inner Voice Seems To Be More Focused On The Present

In The Web Novel, He Seems More Concerned About The Life He Left Behind

One of the qualities of Arthur as a character is that he remembers his past life in full detail, but as he grows up, his memory becomes less and less focused on the past, and he starts to live in the present. While trauma always triggers in him memories (through sporadic flashbacks) of his past life, the truth is that the Arthur in the anime moved forward pretty quickly.

His ‘inner voice’ as King Grey seems to be more of a passenger than an actual part of his persona. While Arthur in the Web Novel and Manhwa fights hard to move forward, the one in the anime has things quite easy from the get-go. That has alteredthe perspective of the character and how fast he develops.

3The Bandit Attack Arc Happens Way Faster And With More Obvious Consequences

There’s An Obvious Time Skip Before And After The Attack

There’s a huge time skip in the ‘journey to Xyryus’ Arc, which omits important aspects of the journey that involve Arthur and his relationship with the Twin Horns party members. Some important details about his parents' past as adventurers were duly omitted, perhaps with the purpose of trying to fit everything into the two episodes of the series.

It is true that the journey in the Web Novel takes several weeks, but the anime skips that time in favor of a faster development, introducing the catalyst for Arthur’s meeting with Sylvia in a more brutal and concise manner. Some of these scenes have been dubbed as a ‘time skip,’ but the following episodes also changed lots of important developments in the series.

2The Anime Skips The Lost In The Forest Part

Arthur Simply Appears At Sylvia’s Nest

The total omission of the ‘lost in the forest’ part of Arthur’s childhood Arc, which happens right after the bandit attack and right before he meets Sylvia, is one of the most notorious and controversial changes in the series. Both the Web Novel and the Manhwa showcase how badly hurt Arthur was after the fall: He didn’t ‘survive miraculously’ and appear right before Sylvia, but struggled to recover for days, with his body badly crippled and on the edge of famine and dehydration.

The part where Arthur slowly makes his path through the forest, and at some point discovers Sylvia’s lair by following her voice, is one of the things that bothers fans the most from all the axed scenes. Some might say it was necessary to make the story fit the adaptation, while others think it was a mistake to omit this information. In truth, this part of the series showcased not only Arthur’s determination to survive, but also how crafty and level-headed he was despite the dangerous situation he was in.

1Sylvia’s Design Is Much More Human-like

A Change Many Fans Have Seen As A Mistake

When Arthur meets Sylvia in the Manhwa and The Novel, she is in her so-called ‘battle-form,’ which is a mixture of anthropomorphic beast and dragon, something that appears right out of the blue after Arthur wakes in Episode 3 ofThe Beginning After The End.But it’s the revelation of Sylvia’s true form that shocked the fans more than anything, from all the differences between the Webnovel and the Anime.

The Webnovel places emphasis on Sylvia’s draconic nature, but the design of the anime showcases a human-like design, with hair and faces that look oddly anthropomorphic and more aligned with the Asuras' human shape. While this has probably been done to put some additional strength on this emotional scene, the design is considerably different from the original.
