Developed by Combat Cat Studio, a small Chinese team of about 20 friends,Wild Assault is available in early access on Steam. It is a unique take on tactical hero shooters with large-scale20v20 PvP matchesbetween anthropomorphic characters calledValiants. It has been developed on Unreal Engine 5 and has undergone several successful public tests through 2024. Wild Assault was also included in the Steam Next Fest in October of last year and received quite a lot of positive feedback from the community.
What Makes Wild Assault Stand Out?
First and foremost, the furry-themed characters make Wild Assault not only adorable to look at, but the character abilities are based on animal instincts, depending on what type of class you choose. Some of these classes include assault, expert, medic, and marksman, with the game emphasizing team play and coordination.
The scale is much larger than other tactical shooters, allowing for teams of up to 20 players each. Currently in early access, this third-person hero shooter brings10 Valiants, 30 weapons, two game modes, and three maps. The maps are large, with both indoor and outdoor areas that can be used to develop a plan of attack. There is also a proficiency system, a gunsmith system, and game seasons to make Wild Assault more interactive.
Some of the characters have quadruped movement, which, according to some player reviews, has been an interesting mechanic that adds to the fun of playing as furries.
In 2024, Wild Assault went through its Alpha, Beta, and Gamma test phases. Players appreciated the concept, the characters, and their skills. Twitch streamer and YouTuberAsmongold also came across the gamelast year and seemed to enjoy it as he played the WA Conquest game mode during his stream.
Since early access went live, other popular streamers like Emiru and Sodapoppin have also played the game, and it quickly soared to the11th most-watched gameat its peak. It is also sitting at “Mostly positive” reviews on Steam with over 930 total reviews (at the time of writing). This indie game has garnered a lot of attention with top-tier streamers, renowned furry virtual streamers, and prominent figures from the shooter community trying it out and appreciating the unique mechanics. The community response marks a major milestone for Wild Assault, emphasizing the potential of the game and the hardwork that this small team has put in.
Combat Cat Studios states that the game will stay in early access forabout 12 to 18 months, during which it will be refined quarterly with the help of community feedback and technical evaluations. There is no release date yet, but a full release is planned for between Q2 and Q3 2026. Along with feedback from the community, there is also an in-game feedback function for players to share their ideas with the developers.
Early access is paid, but the pricing is lower than what it will eventually be when the full game releases. The base game is priced at$14.99but is currently discounted to$13.49.There is also a Wild Assault Supporter Edition bundle that includes theZhenshan Interstellar Pack(Zhenshen Valiant + add-ons) that is priced at$20.50, a discount from its regular price of$21.59. Players will be able to unlock all basic Valiants and weapons for free, which will then be permanently available. The full release will also bring improved social features, Valiant interaction experiences, Valiant customization, and more.

About Combat Cat Studios
Established in 2020, Combat Cat Studios comprises a group of friends, gamers, developers, and designers. All of them love shooter games and furries, and they wanted to see what combat would look like with furries. Wild Assault is a culmination of that passion and curiosity. The team was also inspired by Cat Shit One, a manga and animated series. Wild Assault is the team’s first game, even though the team has been developing shooter games for a long time. They are dedicated to refining the project long term, no matter the scale of success.
