Respawn is the developer behind theStar Wars Jedigames, some of the most successful single-playerStar Warstitles. The developer is currently working on the third game in theStar Wars Jediseries, and in addition to this, the studio has just announced the development of another single-playerStar Warsgame that it’s crafting alongside developer Bit Reactor:Star Wars: Zero Company.
Theannouncement ofStar Wars: Zero Companydidn’t come with much information, with a reveal promised at theStar WarsCelebration in Japan on April 19. Rather thanStar Wars Jedi, which is an action-adventure,Star Wars: Zero Companywill be a turn-based tactical strategy game set during the Clone Wars. Players will build a team of covert operatives and deploy them on missions. This clear contrast toStar Wars Jedi’s genre gives players a good mix of genres for more variety in theStar Warsgaming universe.
Star Wars: Zero Company Could Mark a New Era
Star Warsgames tend to be focused on action, leaving fans who enjoy other kinds of games without. This is a massive waste, as theStar Warsfandom is diverse with many players who would be interested in aStar Warsturn-based tactics game. In 2025, the onlyturn-basedStar WarsgameisStar Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, which is a mobile game.Star Wars: Zero Companywill be released on consoles and PC, making it the only game of its kind set in theStar Warsuniverse in over twenty years.
Star Wars: Zero Companyis a refreshing change of pace from otherStar Warsgames. As a turn-based tactics game, it provides a completely different type of game than others likeStar Wars: Battlefront 2, andStar Wars: Outlaws. It stands in even greater contrast toStar Wars Jedi, which features soulslike gameplay and takes place during the rise of the Empire period. While there are many tactical games out there, part ofStar Wars' appeal is its setting, and a tactics game set in theStar Warsuniverse and during the Clone Wars is a great decision. The Clone Wars is one of the most popular timelines amongStar Warsfans thanks to shows likeStar Wars: The Clone Wars. The Separatist droid army features some of the most iconic enemies in the franchise, so much so that they made a return inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Sequel Stands Alongside Zero Company
Meanwhile, the sequel toStar Wars Jedi: Survivoris in the works. Though it doesn’t have a release date yet, players can likely expect it within the next few years. WhenStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderlaunch, it was the only single-player action game set in theStar Warsuniverse that had been released in years. Upon its debut, it proved incredibly popular, with fans gladly showing up for aStar Warsgame unlike any other on the market.
Star Wars: Zero Companyhas the potential for the same kind of success asJedi: Fallen Order. As aStar Warsgame that’s incredibly unique, it fills a gap that has been empty for decades, and gives players more kinds of games to play.Zero Companydoesn’t need to beatStar Wars Jedi, as it exists in its own space. Instead, the two games can support each other and hopefully ring in a new era ofsingle-player games forStar Warsfans.
