Summary
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2has received its seventh patch update since its PC arrival, which resolves a host of issues affecting the game’s ray-traced graphics, settings menu, controls, and more. Originally developed by Insomniac Games and ported to PC by Nixxes Software,Spider-Man 2has been improved with several patches over time, smoothing out the rough edges that were present at launch.
WhenSpider-Man 2’s PC version came out in January, it gave players quite a different experience compared to its 2023 PS5 counterpart, which was the recipient of widespread acclaim as well as a bunch of prestigious awards. Even though the action-adventure title carried the same noteworthy gameplay and story, the stark difference was in the annoyingly high number of bugs and glitches that plagued the PC port. A couple of hotfixes and six patches later,Spider-Man 2has apparently benefited from the shift put in by the devs and moved from “Mixed” Steam user reviews at launch to “Mostly Positive” at the time of writing. Further adding to this maintenance work, a brand-new patch is now out for the superhero game, which addresses even more player grievances.
The Nixxes team recently followed up itsMarch update forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2with Patch 7, bringing a range of optimizations and bug fixes. First off, the update fixes those visual bugs that resulted in interior objects looking pixelated and interior plants appearing unusually shiny when the Ray-Traced Interiors setting was enabled. The flickering shadows caused by certain Ambient Occlusion settings have also been resolved. On the UI side of things, unusual app behavior, such as changes to settings not saving, when using the Exclusive Fullscreen window mode, would no longer occur. The bug that led to the Field of View option affecting the UI of mini-games is no longer an existing problem.
Moreover, certain controls-centricshortcomings inSpider-Man 2, such as the Parry: Web Blast skill not working at times and MJ’s lure ability being fixed to the E key, are not there anymore. A certain progression blocker that would prevent players from neutralizing active crimes near the Photo Op in the Upper West Side district is also taken care of, with the latest update. Additionally, there are a number of improvements that have been made to the overall stability and performance of the game.
Judging by the stream of frequent patches that have been coming toSpider-Man 2, it seems that the Marvel universe-based game might soon be rid of a high percentage of its technical issues on PC. This could make the next month or so a reasonable time for those holding off on playing the game to finally dive into it. Once players are done with this web-swinging superhero adventure, they can look forward to the nextInsomniac game based on a Marvel IP,Marvel’s Wolverine.
