How to Start the Ulterior Motives Quest in Oblivion Remastered

To start the Ulterior Motives quest, players must have joined the Mages guild bycompleting all Recommendation quests and the Mages' Staff questinOblivion Remastered. After the latter quest, you’ll need tospeak with Raminus at the Arcane University in Imperial Cityand choose the Advancement option to level up to Journeyman mage.

After that, Raminus will task players with retrieving a book from the Count of Skingrad, starting the Ulterior Motives quest.

Recovering the Book from Janus Hassildor

Make your way to Castle Skingrad andspeak to Mercator Hosidusinside the Country Hall. He’ll explain to you how the Count is busy at the moment and ask you to return tomorrow. Simply use Oblivion’s wait feature and fast-forward 24 hours while being inside the Castle.

After 24 hours have elapsed, speak to Mercator again, and he’ll have an update that the Count wants tomeet outside the Cursed Mine at 2 AM. As suspicious as it sounds, simply follow the quest markers and arrive at the designated location at the right time. After a while, you’ll spot Mercator walking up to you and tell you it was all a ploy to eliminate you.

This will lead to a boss fight with Mercator and other necromancers who’ll charge at you at once. Thankfully, Janus Hassildor will join the fight and aid you in battle. Once all the enemies are eliminated,speak to Janusabout the real reason why the University sent you.

Completing Ulterior Motives Quest & Getting the Spelldrinker Amulet

After exhausting all of Janus' dialogs, return to Raminus Polus and update him on the situation. After the Ulterior Motives quest is completed, you’ll earn the rank of an Envoker mage and alsoreceive the Spelldrinker Amulet as a rewardinOblivion Remastered.
