This post contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.
Summary
Sung Jinwoo is the main protagonist ofSolo Leveling. At the beginning of the story, he was at the bottom of the barrel. Jinwoo was the weakest E-rank Hunter, who barely made enough money to survive. Due to his limitations, Jinwoo had to settle for the lowest-ranked gates, as he couldn’t handle the enemies in other gates.
However, his entire life changed when he entered the Double Dungeon, where he came close to dying. Some might argue that he did die and was reborn as a completely different person. While inside the Double Dungeon, Sung Jinwoo was chosen by the System to be the Player. Since then, the author has consistentlygiven Sung Jinwoo new powers, allowing him to take on bigger challenges. However, there was one particular moment where the author nerfed Sung Jinwoo.
How Did The Author Nerf Sung Jinwoo In Solo Leveling
During the International Guild Conference arc, Sung Jinwoo traveled to the United States. He sought permission from the FBH to access Kamish’s corpse. People were surprised by the request, but they couldn’t turn down the request. Sung Jinwoo planned to use his ability torevive Kamish as a Shadow. After failing twice, Jinwoo successfully awakened Kamish as a Shadow on the third attempt.
Sung Jinwoo talked to Kamish for a while, and the magic beast revealed that he used to serve Antares. Before Kamish could permanently join Jinwoo’s Shadow Army, he realized that his body was crumbling away. So, he told the hero to beware of four individuals who were blessed with the power of the Rulers. Shortly afterward, Kamish’s body dissolved.
Kamish Was An Extraordinary Monster
This was a big blow to Sung Jinwoo, as having a magical beast as strong as Kamish would have put him in a different league from any other Hunter. It is worth mentioning that Kamish killed hundreds of S-rank Hunters by himself. He had immense durability and power, making it almost impossible to defeat him.It took five special Hunters to bring downthe beast and end his reign of terror. Four of them had received powers from Rulers, and it’s safe to say they wouldn’t have beaten Kamish without them.
If Sung Jinwoo recruited Kamish as one of his Shadows, he probably wouldn’t have to fight anyone until someone stronger than the Shadow appeared. It would be remiss not to mention that Kamish would never die, as he would be a Shadow. The author made a critical choice here by not giving Jinwoo Kamish’s shadow. One might question the author’s decision, but overall, it was the correct choice.
Sung Jinwoo Still Has Many Powerful Shadows
The Hero Has Gained Many Strong Shadows
Despite failing to get Kamish as a soldier, Sung Jinwoo did manage to get an S-rank Hunter as his minion, namely Hwang Dongsoo, whom he named Greed, a name fitting his personality. Greed is a General Grade Shadow, meaning that it is capable of overwhelming top-notch S-rank Hunters. At that point in the story, Sung Jinwoo had the following Shadows:
All these Shadows are powerful, and they have helped Jinwoo deal with many threats.
In Solo Leveling Season 2, fanssaw Sung Jinwoo recruit Beru, Tusk, Iron, Tank, and Kaisel. In the third season, the hero will likely obtain Greed and Jima.
What’s interesting is how much Sung Jinwoo will use Greed. After all, he despised Hwang Dongsoo. The S-rank Hunter kidnapped Yoo Jinho and beat him up brutally. This didn’t sit well with Sung Jinwoo, who killed him. The Shadows are loyal to Sung Jinwoo, so the hero might not hold a grudge forever.
Presently, fans are eager to learn when the third season of Solo Leveling will be released. So far, there have been no updates from the official accounts, which has dampened fans' hopes. It is likelythat Solo Leveling Season 3 will be releasedin 2027, as the director is busy with other projects. So, it will be a long time before fans get to see Sung Jinwoo in action again.
