InSaGa Frontier 2,you can choose between two scenarios at the beginning of the game, each providing different experiences and rewards based on your character’s choices in the story that follows Gustave and Wil, starting in their youth.
After a brief introduction to the young Gustave’s birth, you will have two choices:Gustave ExiledandWil’s Departure. While they tie together to an extent, the scenarios have quite a few differences. This guide will explain which is the best starting point forSaGa Frontier 2 Remastered.
Gustave & Wil’s Scenarios In SaGa Frontier 2
After the opening scene, you will be given the choice between playing the soon-to-be exiled prince and former heir to the throne, Gustave, or the 15-year-old Wil Knights, a digger/miner who lives with his aunt and uncle in a small village called Westia.
Gustave XIII
Gustave XIII’s scenario is very story-driven as it chronicles his rise from an exiled prince to a warrior and leader whose fate leads him back to the kingdom he was exiled from. Except for eight sequences in his timeline, Gustave’s story has very little interaction, exploration, or combat. Despite being unable to learn any elemental skills, Gustave is one of the strongestmelee fightersinSaGa Frontier 2,with powerful attacks, weapons, and arts that are unique to him.
Wil Knights
Wil Knight’s scenario is more adventure-driven and lets you explore Westia, interact with NPCs, and take part in battles. Unlike Gustave, Will is a staff user who employs magic arts. As the story progresses, he becomes better suited to themagic caster roleand participates in as many duels as possible to unlock more magic abilities. He has much lower physical stats than Gustave, but with more gameplay opportunities, duels, and combat scenarios, you’re able to build Wil as one of the most powerful characters in the game.
Should You Pick Will Or Gustave In SaGa Frontier 2?
While both have their advantages and disadvantages as starting characters,Gustave is the best character to start with. Not only because he has an arguably better backstory, but Gustave’s powerful abilities carry over into Wil’s story while unlocking new ones when their narratives become intertwined. Therefore, overall,selecting Gustave as a starting character inSaGa Frontier 2provides the best introduction for new players.
Please note thatSaGa Frontier 2does not lock you into Gustave’s campaign, so you can jump into Wil’s scenarios after completing a few of Gustave’s.
