Summary
A new rumor making the rounds online suggests thatPrototype 3could be in the works. It’s been a whopping 13 years sincePrototype 2was first released, so fans shouldn’t hold their breath for thePrototype 3rumors to be real. That being said, they are definitely interesting to consider.
The originalPrototypegame was released in 2009 and earned mostly positive reviews and strong sales. An open-world game, theoriginalPrototypestarred Alex Mercer, a shapeshifter that has to discover his origins all the while dealing with military forces and mutated creatures. Three years later,Prototype 2hit store shelves. This time around, Mercer was the antagonist and a new character, James Heller, was made the main playable character.Prototype 2wasn’t quite as popular as the original game, but there are still many fans who want to revisit thePrototypeuniverse.
Unfortunately, a thirdPrototypegame has not been announced to this date. That being said, a new rumor claims thatPrototype 3is in the works, though fans should certainly take the claims with a grain of salt.According to Reddit user Bigbyy, who claims to have been part of an Activision “study group,“Prototype 3will allegedly see Alex Mercer back as the main character. This time around, Mercer will apparently be able to transform into other people “to infiltrate areas.” The post claims that the newPrototypegame will once again be set in New York. Fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about this being real, but with Activision now under the Xbox umbrella, aPrototyperevival seems more realistic now than before.
Prototype 3 is Rumored, But Take It With a Grain of Salt
There issome fan demand for a newPrototypegame, but the question is if it’s enough to actually get the hypothetical project off the ground. WhilePrototype 2sales were strong at first, the game ultimately did not meet expectations. This is what put thePrototypeseries on ice in the first place, and with it having been 13 years since the previous game came out, it’s hard to say if aPrototype 3would sell enough to justify its existence.
Time will tell if aPrototype 3ever materializes, but in the meantime, fans can easily revisit the first two games in the series. Both the firstPrototypeand its sequel are readily available on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles thanks to their PS4 and Xbox One ports.
The same leaker also claimed to revealCall of Duty: Black Ops 7details. We will find out about the 2025Call of Dutygame within a matter of months, so if their claims about that title prove to be true, thenPrototypefans can get more excited about the possibility of a third game in the dormant franchise.
