Summary

Respawn Entertainment has given fans a small but important update aboutStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s upcoming sequel, confirming it’s still in development. There are severalStar Warsgames currently in the works from multiple studios, but many have been relatively quiet since their initial announcements, and the third entry in Respawn’s belovedJediseries is no different. Details on the follow-up toStar Wars Jedi: Survivorare still scarce, but fans at least know now it survived a recent round of cuts.

On April 29,Respawn revealed it had canceled two projectsand made “some targeted team adjustments.” Multiple sources reported that those “adjustments” meant layoffs affecting roughly 100 employees. It’s not the first time the EA-owned company has laid off staff or ended development on a game in recent memory, but the team is still hard at work onStar Wars Jedi 3.

In the same Twitter post that confirmed the cancellation of two early-stage titles, Respawn said it was “excited to keep building new stories” with the next installment ofStar Wars Jedi. The announcement devotes just one sentence to the series, but it confirms that the studio is indeed still working on it. A job listingall but confirmed a thirdStar Wars Jedigamein 2024, but Respawn has not said much about it since. That silence may worry some fans, especially in light of the layoff and cancellation news, so it’s good to see that the project is still underway, even if the expected release date and other details remain a mystery for now.

Respawn Confirms It’s Still Working on Star Wars Jedi 3

The wording earlier in the post makes it seem like the cancellations and layoffs were part of a shift to focus on two of the brand’s biggest properties:Star Wars JediandApex Legends. That could mean that development on the third entry in the series could ramp up, but that’s unclear for now. In 2024, EAcanceled aStar WarsFPS being developed by Respawnand reportedly moved some of that team to work on the nextJedigame, so this latest shift could be a similar story, but the layoffs and project cuts could just as well not affectJedi 3’s development at all.

The next installment in theJediseries isn’t the onlyStar Warsproject Respawn is working on at the moment, either. The studio is alsodevelopingStar Wars Zero Companyalongside Bit Reactor, though it seems Respawn’s role on that title is smaller, with Bit Reactor taking the lead. Regardless, things are shaking up at Respawn, so the future is uncertain, but fans can rest easy knowing thatStar Wars Jedi 3is still coming eventually.
