Resident Evil 9has become one of the most anticipated in-development projects at the moment, as many longtime fans are wondering what’s in store next for Capcom’s action horror series. AfterRE7andVillagekicked life back into the franchise with some serious scares and a switch to a first-person perspective, this new era has been exciting to watch unfold. However, the ending ofVillageleavesResident Evil 9in a shadow of mystery.

RE7introduced a brand-new protagonist through Ethan Winters, but the end ofVillagemade it pretty clear that the Winters saga was over, at least on the surface. Ethan’s daughter and wife, Rosemary and Mia, are still loose ends that the franchise has yet to fully tie up, which could pave the way foran interesting protagonist route forRE9. Because of Rosemary’s powers, she seems like a shoo-in to reappear in some capacity, but Mia and her mysterious business with The Connections might be an even better option for a lead character.

Resident Evil 9 Could Finally Shed More Light On The Connections

RE7 and Village Merely Scratched the Surface With The Connections

The morally corrupt methods of The Connections make Mia an incredibly intriguing character thatResident Evilhas yet to dive deeper into. At first,RE7seems like a more traditional story of a concerned husband trying to save his missing wife, but Mia’s involvement with such a group actually hints that she’s more dangerous and capable than one might originally think. Unfortunately, bothRE7andVillagepretty much gloss over her time with the crime organization, making her potential to become a strong character feel wasted at times.

However, there’s also the possibility that Capcom has a surprise up its sleeve with the next story. There is still plenty of potential for Mia to be used as a sort of anti-hero,like Ada Wong. She may not boast the same combat and spy skills as Ada, but Mia, willingly working for a crime syndicate as nefarious as how The Connections is described, teases plenty of secrets that could be hiding under the surface.

RE7director Koshi Nakanishi is returning forRE9, which could potentially hint at continuing The Connections' storyline.

The Connections is Now One of the Franchise’s Biggest Mysteries

Introducing a group as dangerous and unethical as The Connections and not expanding on what the organization is all about leaves a major hole inResident Evil’s lorethat will hopefully be patched. AfterVillage, Rosemary was put under the care of the United States government and Chris Redfield, while Mia’s whereabouts remain unknown. A fun twist could be that perhaps Mia is now working as a double agent in order to gain deeper intel on The Connections for Chris.

Ethan’s daughter and wife, Rosemary and Mia, are still loose ends that the franchise has yet to fully tie up.

Rumors About Resident Evil 9 Persist

Until Capcom makes something official, any mention ofRE9and its storyshould be taken with a grain of salt. It’s been nearly four years sinceVillagelaunched, and the longer the wait continues, more rumors are bound to pop up.

The future ofResident Evilis currently a huge mystery at the moment, but the anticipation for an official announcement is quickly growing. There is still hope that Capcom will finally revealRE9sometime this year, but only time will.
