Capcomcontinues to keepResident Evilfans largely in the dark regarding the future of the franchise. Ever since 2023’s massively successful remake of the landmark fourth entry, the assumption has been that it would then be focusing its attention on the next numberedResident Evilinstallment. As time has gone on, though, the developer has provided little in the way of actual updates.
As unofficial sources have stepped in to offer numerous leaks and rumors, one notable insider, AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, suggested thatResident Evil 9will be a “major reinvention"along the lines of the ways thatRE4andRE7were. As always, such claims should be taken with a measure of skepticism. But by looking at some of this information and breaking down previous patterns, some clues might emerge as to when exactlyRE9will finally be officially revealed.
One of the confirmed pieces of news is thatResident Evil 7’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, who also worked on various other entries, has been put back in the director’s chair forRE9.
When Could Resident Evil 9 Be Revealed?

Resident Evil 7is often considered to mark the turning point that kicked off the series' “modern era.” With it being almost ten years since the announcement of the reboot that rejuvenatedRE, it might be a good place to start when looking at the history of when, and where, Capcom revealed each title:

Now that E3 has been retired, and given the developer’s close ties with Sony, withREconsistently appearing at related events, a reasonable assumption is thatResident Evil 9will continue this trend. While many hoped this would be the case at this past February’s State of Play,REdid not make an appearance. However, there have beenrumors of a Summer 2025 PlayStation Showcasecirculating, which could provide a spark of hope for a reveal to come soon.
Other rumors and leaks have pointed to “less ambitious"Code: VeronicaandResident Evil Zeroremakes also being in the works.
Resident Evil 9 Reveal Window Prediction
Back in September 2024, another leak from areliable source claimedResident Evil 9would release during the “second half of 2025.“If this is true, it would coincide well with a summer reveal, with perhaps an early or mid-Fall date. That would be a fairly quick turnaround time between reveal and release, something that Capcom might be counting on to satisfy fans who have been eagerly awaiting it.
Another thing to keep in mind is that2026 will markResident Evil’s 30th anniversary, and thus it might be that the studio is instead saving a reveal for that milestone. This would contradict the above claim, but shouldn’t be ruled out entirely, given the high expectations along with the alleged ambitious direction thatRE9is taking.
A few other options would be forResident Evil 9to be unveiled at either this year’s Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards in December. The latter would likely mean the next entry wouldn’t be released until 2026, unless Capcom truly surprises fans by shadow-dropping it, although this is probably more far-fetched. If Capcom sticks largely to past patterns, though, a summer reveal followed by a release date around the following spring would align with the above, and might currently be the most logical conjecture.
