APokemonfan has given Crustle a redesign that blends a classic RPG enemy and an existing Pokemon form. The creative design looks interesting, but would probably be horrifying for someone in thePokemonuniverse to actually encounter.
Pokemonhas expanded over the years not only by introducing entirely new Pokemon, but plenty of new forms and evolutions, as well. Gigantamax, Mega Evolutions, andTerastallizationare a few examples of temporary transformations, but some Pokemon have also gained different forms entirely, leading to differences between two Pokemon of the same species, like with Gimmighoul.
Now,Pokemonfan artist Matratzfratz has taken a bit of inspiration from Gimmighoul and brought it to their Crustle redesign. This Crustle is its Chest Form, which sees the rock on its back transformed into a treasure chest. Unlike Gimmighoul, Crustle’s treasure chest is a worn down box of loot, with Crustle itself taking on some pirate-like characteristics, such as its claws becoming more hook-like pincers. The fan also shared a look at a variant of its unevolved stage, Dwebble, giving it a “Hadal Form” which almost looks like it’s inhabiting an old diver’s helmet. Matratzfratz changed Crustle’s typing to Bug/Water, and notes that its treasure chest traps greedy divers, gradually digesting them over time. It’s a fairly creepy concept, though it wouldn’t be the firstPokedex entry that’s disturbing.
Pokemon Fans Like Crustle Chest Form
Other players have shared positive feedback with the artist, as well as some ideas and suggestions. One fan noted that Crustle wouldn’t have to necessarily be a Water-type, even if it were in the sea, suggesting that it could instead be a Bug/Grass-type. Another player pointed out that this version of Crustle is essentially a Mimic, which most RPG fans will likely have met in at least one game. For those unfamiliar,Mimic monstersare creatures that take the form of treasure chests that then attack players when they get too close. The notion of encountering and being trapped by a Mimic underwater just adds to the fear factor.
As far as the official series of games goes, giving Pokemon different forms not only helps to keep massive roster of existing Pokemon interesting and fresh, but also opens up a lot of possibilities for battle strategies. For the foreseeable future, though, most players will probably be thinking up battle strategies revolving around Mega Evolutions. Existing Mega Evolutions are returning, and brand-new Mega Evolutions are being introduced inPokemon Legends: Z-A.
