Summary

A creatively skilledPokemonfan is racking up likes in the thousands for their realistic depiction of Urshifu. The lifelike illustration of the Legendary Pokemon, which features photorealistic details in its fur, clothing, and even eyes, is leaving a lot ofPokemonfans plenty impressed, while also almost as equally disturbed.

A Fighting-type Legendary from the eighth generation ofPokemon, Urshifu was first introduced viaPokemon Sword and Shield’s The Isle of Armor DLC. Evolving from Kubfu, Urshifu becomes one of two versions depending on whether it was given the Scroll of Darkness or the Scroll of Waters. The former results in the Single Strike Style, a dual-type Fighting/Dark, while the latter is the Fighting/Water Rapid Strike Style. Urshifu and otherGen 8 Pokemon were recently added toPokemon GOas part of the mobile title’s Powerful Potential event.

The impressive yet disturbing version of Urshifu comes from a Reddit user with the handle of LolitaRey, who posted their creation to one of the site’s primaryPokemonpages. Appearing to be modeled after the Single Strike Style, the naturalistic Urshifu almost looks as if it was photographed, rather than it being a piece of digital artwork. The second image in the post is a close-up, side-profile of the piece, further showing off the incredible realism in each and every texture. WhileUrshifu inPokemon Scarlet and Violethas been popular to use, this may cause a few trainers to reconsider.

Stirring up several hundred comments,Pokemonfans are finding the realism to be both incredible and yet “nightmare fuel” at the same time. While maybe not as common as some other styles ofPokemonfan art, creating ultra-realistic versions of Pokemon is certainly a niche within the artistically prolific fandom. Found on the same page as the one above, anotherPokemonfan created a horrifyingly realistic Squirtle, also crafted with photorealistic textures and details. While the Squirtle is an actual physical sculpture, unlike the Urshifu above, both are largely found byPokemonfans to be extremely creepy.

Some Less-Disturbing Pokemon Fan Art

Urshifu in a hyperrealistic art style may be disturbing to mostPokemonfans, but the original poster has also made headlines for otherPokemonart, and in a vastly different style. Last October, the samePokemonfan shared an adorable Halloween Togepi figure, which they 3D printed. Apparently their first-ever print, the Togepi is much more true toPokemon’s normal art style than the Urshifu. While the trend of creating realistic Pokemon may be “disturbing,” the fascination with what “real life” Pokemon could look like seems to constantly pique the curiosity of the fanbase.
