Summary
A talentedPokemonfan designed an original monster that could be Applin’s distant relative. The apple creature debuted with the Galar region, and while it’s not a fan-favorite monster, Applin is still quite famous amongPokemonfans.
Applin was first introduced as a Grass/Dragon hybrid inPokemon Sword and Shieldback in 2019. Amongall Gen 8 Pokemon, Applin isn’t the strongest, but its lovable appearance has made it fairly popular among players. Applin may look like the real-life fruit on the outside, but they are actually small worm-like monsters bound to an apple since birth. Fans who wish to show their appreciation for their favorite Pokemon often make them protagonists of fan art, and Applin is no exception. However, sometimes players will share fan creations that poke fun at the monsters, as did one Pokemon fan.
Reddit user Matratzfratz shared their original design of a distant relative of Applin named “Pebblin,” complete with an evolution and Pokedex entry. As seen in the fan art, Pebblin is a Bug/Rock-type Pokemon that hides under rocks, similar to how Applin hides inside apples. Moreover, just asApplin has many evolutions, Matratzfratz' Pebblin evolves into Towerin, a creature in the shape of castle ruins. The fan art’s description, however, throws some shade at Applin by calling it a fool and inferior to Pebblin. The community complimented the fan’s artistic talent piece and reacted to the teasing, with one user deeming it hilarious.
Pokemon Fan Gives Applin an Adorable ‘Distant Relative’
While Matratzfratz doesn’t particularly celebrate Applin in their art, other skillful fans have. OnePokemonfan gave Applin regional variantsbased on desserts and turned it into a Fairy/Dragon hybrid. Since the release ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, Applin has earned three evolutions, including a three-stage one, making the Galar creature a perfect opportunity for fans to let their creativity loose.
Applin will soon make its debut in yet another popularPokemongame as well.Pokemon GO’s upcoming Sweet Discoveries eventwill add the Gen 8 creature and its Galar evolutionary line. Registering Flapple and Appletun in their Pokedex won’t be an easy feat for players, though, as each form will require 200 Applin Candy. Fortunately for fans, catching Pokemon during the event will offer them double the amount of Candy. The Sweet Discoveries event will run from April 24 to 29, and players will also have an increased chance of encountering shiny Delibird and shiny Skwovet.
