Summary
Stories about reincarnated heroes or students transported to another world to face the infamous Demon Lords are the core of every goodIsekai anime. These heroes are often granted powers that allow them to overcome this difficult task or extraordinary legendary weapons that can slay any enemy.
Often called ‘cheat skills,’ these abilities are as broken as the structural plot of many of these series. But what happens when a person summoned to another world already has powers even before getting into the ‘chosen hero’ trope? Sometimes, that ends with fire and blood, altering the balance of the world forever. This list spotlights Isekai Protagonists who already had powers before getting summoned or transported to another world.
Takatou (an obvious reference to Thanatos) was raised inside a secret facility back on Earth, he had no name, no parents, and most importantly, no one near him to call a family. His power to ‘end all things’ became a burden on the young man, so he was ultimately raised by androids and people from The Institute who had him living in a secret underground bunker. At some point, Asaka Takatou was appointed as his caretaker, so she adopted him, gave him a name, and imprinted some humanity in the poor fellow before he managed to somehow re-integrate in society as a ‘normal’ schoolboy.
When Sage Sion summoned a full student class into her Fantasy World for her own nefarious purposes, she grabbed more than she bargained for. Takatou was among those she discarded as ‘useless’ and condemned to die, triggering the ire of Yogiri, who ended up embarking on a journey to demand some answers fromthe most incompetent villain in the story.
Tenjou Yuuya from I Got A Cheat Skill In Another World was already marked for greatness from the second he was born. His Grandfather, obviously not a resident of our world, was a former Sage who left Yuuya more than just his mansion and private possessions. He knew Yuuya would, at some point, trigger his inner power and be able to travel back and forth between dimensions as he did.
So, after transitioning to the other world for the first time, Yuuya has already received part of his abilities and can control the ‘system’ to empower himself as a Sage. Thus, he already had the powers latent inside him, and he didn’t know about them. The trigger to unlock them was moving to the other world.
Setsu found himself transported to the same fantasy world he visited a few years ago, in a similar situation: The residents of that other realm called forth heroes from Japan to defeat a rising threat to their land and granted them abilities.
But Setsu was quite different from what they remembered, so he lay low and tried to figure out why he was there once more. Turns out it was all a conspiracy to take revenge on him after his past exploits. Still, he already had hit max level in most of his abilities and when he was summoned again, he became even more powerful.
Betrayed and pursued until his last breath, Haruyoshi used the ultimate technique and died knowing he had dragged his enemies to the afterlife with him. But, he gotreincarnated as a noble childin a fantasy world, and to top it off: he kept his spiritual powers and ability to summon his army of Shikigami (summoned spirits who fight for him).
The only thing now was to try and learn the local methods for casting spells and living in this new fantasy setting. However, his powers ended up making it nearly impossible for him to fit in, and he was dragged into a kingdom-scale conspiracy and tons of trouble that originated from him breaking the hero/demon lord reincarnation cycle.
As members of the Kisaragi Evil Organization, Combatant Nº 6 and his personal Android (supervisor), Alice are well equipped to conquer another world. Nº 6 has been exhaustively trained and has undergone superhuman enhancement to some extent, though he doesn’t show it too much due to certain reasons (he dumped WIS and INT).
Alice, on the other hand, is a super intelligent advanced AI. She has the features of a combat android, turning her into Kisaragi’s ‘secret weapon.’ So, both of them had powers the second they entered the new realm to conquer it. Much to the disgust of its inhabitants, Kisaragi is there to stay. The anime is quite fun to watch, butthe manga is even better.
Aoi Ichijō is a member of the Prodigies summoned to another world in the Chōyoyū Anime. She is the only member of the team that could be considered super-human due to her extremely over-the-norm physical and combat capabilities. She was already the strongest Swordmaster on Earth before she got summoned, and that meant she had overpassed the peak of human condition.
Her ridiculous strength allows her to beat hundreds of soldiers at the same time and deflect missiles with her katana, among other incredible feats of power.
