Still, Oda has promised that he will answer every single mystery of theOne Pieceworld in the Final Saga, which is why this part of the story is as important as it is.

Furthermore, this is where all the Straw Hats will eventually reach their goals, and that makes this arc doubly special. Speaking of the Straw Hats, at this point, Oda has already explained most of the mysteries surrounding them, but there is one character whose past remains shrouded in mystery still, and that character is none other than Nami, and she might actually be from the Void Century, crazy as it may sound.

Nami And Her Mysterious Origins In One Piece

When it comes to Nami’s past, fans only know her life with Bellemere. Nami was found by Nojiko as a baby in the Oykot Kingdom, and then Bellemere found the two and decided to raise them. She became their mother and did the best she could to raise them. While Nami found her family early on, her true origins remain unknown to this day. Nobody knows where she comes from, who her true family is, and why a baby was found abandoned in Oykot Kingdom.

The story was a bit too emotional for the movie. — Oda on removing Nami’s past from Strong World

That said, Oda most certainly has a very deep and emotional backstory for Nami that he hasn’t revealed yet, and was originally going to show in Strong World. So far, this story has remained a secret but if Oda chose to not show it in the movie, it’ll definitely become important later down the line. At the very least, fans know that her true past is important to Oda and that he will, at some point, go on to reveal it in the Final Saga of One Piece. This fakes us to Nami’s true origins, which might not be from the earth at all.

Why Nami Might Actually Be From The Moon

Nami Is Connected To The Moon In Many Ways

Nami is a very important Straw Hat whose origins will shake the world ofOne Piece. If there’s one thing that fans can be certain about, it is that Nami is still full of mystery. Still, being an alien to the Blue Star might seem like a stretch to some fans, but this idea needs to be explained with patience. One thing that fans need to keep in mind is that Oda has been deeply influenced by Dragon Ball while growing up to the point where he openly calls Toriyama a god.

To me, Akira Toriyama is a god. — Eiichiro Oda

It is no surprise to know that many of his characters draw inspiration from Dragon Ball and Nami is one of them. As to which character Nami is inspired by in part, it’s none other than Son Goku. The parallels are very easy to spot. Nami carries a climatact that extends and retracts, while Goku carries his power pole.Nami has Zeus the thundercloud, while Goku has Kinto’un. Clearly, there are inspirations that Oda has drawn from Goku.

Speaking of Goku, if there’s one thing that stands out about his past, it is that he actually came from another planet, Planet Vegeta, and was sent to Earth with the goal of destroying it. However, eventually, he was raised by Gohan and the rest is history. Nami could be somewhat similar, although slightly different. In Nami’s case, she likely came from the moon.

How Nami Came From The Moon

Although it might seem crazy on the surface, those who know the lore of One Piece know very well that moon people exist and they eventually settled on the Blue Star. In Enel’s cover story, this is clearly revealed. On the moon, they all lived in a city called Birka, which they eventually left. When they came to the Blue Star, they settled in three places. The Skypeians settled in Skypiea, the Shandians settled in Jaya, and the third race settled on a Sky Island they named after the city on the moon, Birka.

Curiously enough, Oda has stated that in the real world, Nami would’ve been from Sweden in SBS Volume 56. This is rather random from Oda, but, upon further inspection, one can clearly see that in Sweden, there is a city called Birka, which might holdthe key to Nami’s true origins. Nami is from Birka, or more specifically, her family is of Birkans origin. It is likely that they settled in Birka and that is where Nami was born in the Void Century.

How Nami Time Traveled To The Current Timeline

Nami Is From The Void Century

Although the part about Nami being a Birkan is already explained, fans might still be confused as to how Nami is from the Void Century. The answer to this lies in a rather obscure detail that Oda introduced in One Piece chapter 627. In this chapter, Nami is seen speaking to Shirahoshi, who makes a wild statement. According to Shirahoshi, even though she just met Nami on Fishman Island, she says that it feels like she has known her forever. Most fans might brush this detail as unimportant, but it could hold huge significance, especially knowing that Shirahoshi isthe reincarnation of the Mermaid Princesswho existed 900 years ago. If this Mermaid Princess was close to Nami’s parents, or specifically her mother, it would make sense as to why both their children would find a certain connection to each other.

Now, as to how Nami was born in the Void Century, the key lies in the Toki Toki no Mi. Nami was likely sent to this era because of her special ability to perceive the weather like no other, and to guide the future Joy Boy to the treasure known as the One Piece, which the previous Joy Boyleft behind. Nami time traveled to Oykot Kingdom from 800 years ago, and eventually, was found by Nojiko. Her true name, along with her true past is all a mystery that Oda will reveal in the Final Saga.
