Being such a long series, when translating theOne Piecemanga into anime, there are bound to be a few things that are overlooked. Between certain scenes that are cut, graphic material that is censored, or the addition of various scenes to enhance the overall experience, the anime has a fair share of differences from the manga. However, especially when compared to other anime,One Pieceis very accurate to the manga, includes almost all the content from the source material, and only deviates slightly, with various filler arcs.
Sadly, by including so many details from theOne Piecemanga, the anime has become highly bloated in terms of length, with the episode count easily exceeding the number of chapters in the series when covering the same material. Additionally, many fans feel that despite being so incredibly long, filled with lots of recaps and filler, there is a major part of the manga thatthe anime rarely animates: the Cover Stories. From here, many fans believe that rather than animating so many uninteresting recap scenes, their time may be better spent translating Cover Stories to the anime once again.
One Piece Cover Stories Follow Canon Side Stories

For those that are unfamiliar with the manga, Cover Stories are additional stories that cover additional elements of the world ofOne Piece.With each new chapter, the cover will include one new panel and one new line that explores the adventures of the various side characters in the series. Ranging from Koby’s training toYamato’s adventures after the Wano Arc, these arcs tend to expand upon some of the most beloved characters in the series.

However, despite there being a fair number of Cover Stories in the manga so far, there are only a few of them that have been animated. This includes Buggy’s adventures as a torso and Koby and Helmeppo’s training arc. Since then, there have been fewer and fewer Cover Stories being animated, choosing instead to completely cut out these portions of the canon plot. For example, while in the manga, fans were given the chanceto see Hatchi escape from the Marinesand find his way into opening a Takoyaki stand, in the anime he simply appeared with little explanation.

It May Be Too Late For Earlier Cover Stories
In a post on Reddit by SuperAnimeMaster38, fans have come together to discuss this phenomenon, discussing both why the show hasn’t animated this material and what it should do in the future to better incorporate it into the story. Interestingly, some fans believe that, while it would be nice to introduce these scenes, it may be extremelyhard and time-consuming to animatethese parts of the story. Additionally, some fans are worried that plots may become too confusing with a lot of these side stories being dated compared to the current story, introducing too many random details that don’t matter overall.
At the same time, however, these feel like excuses for the show’s decision not to include them rather than explanations for why they didn’t include them in the first place. While these stories are fairly small, the way theyflesh out theOne Pieceworldis one of the things that makes them so special. In fact, there are plenty of these Cover Stories that haven’t been animated that would have been or could be relevant in the future of the series. For example, moments like Enel’s journey on the moon could have major repercussions later in the series. However, anime fans will be left behind if this comes to be.
The New One Piece Show Could Include Cover Stories

To solve this issue, some fans believe that a good place to add them isthe new remake ofOne Pieceby Wit. In this production, the studio could include the details of these Cover Stories briefly, if not only as small after-credits scenes and not full-blown stories. Although this is difficult, it would help bring back the feel of the early stages ofOne Piecethat fans miss so much.
Arrived at the “Fairy Vearth!” - Enel’s Cover Story
Still, as the series keeps movingfurther into the Final Saga, the time to include more Cover Stories may have already passed. However, it’ll be sad to see this material never find its way to the anime, as it’s beloved by many fans. Hopefully, at the very least, theOne Pieceanime will include at least one or two of the more modern Cover Stories before the end of the series.
