Summary
The Straw Hats are among the most feared crews inOne Piece. They have built a solid reputation by taking down numerous big-name crews, the most recent being Kaido’s Beasts Pirates. The Straw Hats have varying power levels, but they contribute in any way they can.
While most of the crew members are courageous and intrepid, a few of them are still fearful. The Straw Hat Pirates have what is called the Weakling Trio, and it consists of Nami, Chopper, and Usopp. They are the ones who usually get scared whenever the crew runs into another powerful group. Many fans have wondered why Usopp, who is a sniper, hasn’t grown strong and overcome this fear altogether. The reason is quite simple. It is because Eiichiro Oda doesn’t want to.
Oda Reveals Why Usopp Will Remain The Weakest Straw Hat
In an old interview with Luffy’s voice actress, Mayumi Tanaka, Oda stated that he wants Usopp to remain the weakest crew member. He said that no matter who joins, Usopp will always remain the weakest. Otherwise, it will upset the balance of the story. Oda further revealed that Usopp will remain the weakest because the sniper is closest in strength to a normal human being.
Some fans may bedisappointed with Oda’s decision, but it makes complete sense. In almost every shonen series, the main characters have superhuman strength, and they are head and shoulders above ordinary people. Making such characters is not a bad thing, but there is a saturation. So, Oda’s choice to make Usopp stay weak and close to human standards is refreshing.
Usopp’s Realism Sets Him Apart From Others
Eiichiro Oda’s decision to keep Usopp weaker than the rest affects the Straw Hat Sniper in several ways. First, it means that Usopp will remain last in terms of strength, no matter how much he tries, and he will stay in the Weakling Trio forever. Usopp will need to come up with ingenious ways to beat his opponents.
Fans have already seen Usopp getting the better of his enemies by tricking them. While his tactics may seem outrageous, they almost always manage to succeed. With the story in the Final Saga, Usopp will have to step up his efforts and come up with new ideas on how to overcome his opponents.
Of course! It was fake! I can’t lift five tons! I quit after five pounds!
One of the best things about Usopp being the weakest is that he is more relatable to the other Straw Hats. Viewers can sympathize with Usopp whenever the sniper tries to run away at the first sight of danger or when he hides behind someone stronger. Now would also be a good time to remind fans that Usopp’s dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea.
For a person who is physically weak and gets scared so easily, it is the most realistic and challenging thing to accomplish. Despite his weaknesses, Usopp hasn’t stopped trying. When the time comes, he will risk his life for the sake of his friends. At the end of the series, when Usopp accomplishes his dream, it will be truly spectacular.
Usopp Is One Of The Best Characters In One Piece
Despite His Flaws, Usopp Is An Outstanding Character
Usopp’s lack of strength has itspros and cons. Sometimes it can be frustrating to see Usopp run away from his enemies instead of helping out the crew by finishing them off. Usopp’s lack of strength means that he cannot be trusted to handle a complicated situation by himself. On the positive side, Usopp is one of the few characters whose fights are unpredictable.
The audience never knows what methods Usopp might use to win. For instance, he was the only one unaffected by Perona’s power. If it weren’t for him, the crew would have lost. While unrelated, it would be remiss not to mention that Usopp also has great chemistry with the rest of the crew, particularly Luffy and Chopper. All in all, Usopp is an interesting character, and hopefully, he issuper involved in the Elbaf arc.
