Adding Star Wars to Oblivion

Star Warsfans were excited to find the Easter egg inOblivion Remasteredas it’s a reference to one of the most pivotal moments in the franchise. It takes place inStar Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, shortly after Obi-Wan defeated Anakin on the lava planet Mustafar. In the movie, Anakin, who is missing both his legs and one arm, slides close to the river of lava and catches fire, burning his entire body until he’s completely unrecognizable. The Easter egg is a little different to the original and shows a body half submerged in the lava, but the pose of the body is an exact match.

TheStar WarsEaster egg has been rediscovered, but it isn’t new and could be seen in the originalOblivion.Revenge of the Sithwas released in 2005, the year before theoriginalOblivion, and the climatic scene where Obi-Wan defeats Anakin would have been fresh in the popular imagination.

Finding Anakin’s Body in Oblivion Remastered

Where to Find Oblivion’s Star Wars Reference

Some players have encountered a bug where Oblivion gates have been opening before doing the Siege of Kvatch. The “first Oblivion gate” refers to the one in Kvatch, not any of theoptional Oblivion gates. Upon entering the Kvatch Oblivion gate, there will be a bridge directly ahead. Players who head towards the west shore of the pool of lava that the bridge crosses will see a charred body half submerged in the lava. The body’s position mirrors Anakin’s inRevenge of the Sithafter being burned.

Oblivion Remasteredincluding such a specific reference shows that the game’s creators not only pay attention to pop culture, but are fans of it themselves.New fans ofOblivioncan discover the reference, which remains alive in theStar Warsfandom in the form of memes, while fans of the originalOblivionget to appreciate that it remained even through the remaster process. This is a reminder of howOblivion Remasteredhas retained the charm of its original, alongside keeping the mistakes and some of the technical jank that has made it a source of memes.
