Some of the most well-known quests inOblivion Remasteredare also its darkest, and few factions are quite as aligned withtwisted ambition as the Dark Brotherhood.Oblivion Remasteredplayers can join the Dark Brotherhood almost immediately upon starting the game, before you even reach Level 2, if you know where to go.
To join the Dark Brotherhood,Oblivion Remasteredplayers must fulfill several requirements. This guide explains all three steps you must complete to become a member of the Dark Brotherhood inOblivion Remastered, and offers tips to help you join the Dark Brotherhood and start these uniquely dark faction quests (andeven become a Vampire) faster.
How To Join The Dark Brotherhood In Oblivion
Step One: Kill Any Innocent Person To Meet Lucien Lachance
Thefirst thing players must doto join the Dark Brotherhood inOblivion Remasteredis to find an innocent NPC and slay them in cold blood – preferably without anyone watching.
The fastest way to join the Dark Brotherhood and fulfill this requirement is to head to Bravil, which is conveniently located just down the road from your Dark Brotherhood initiation target. Bravil is found in the southeast of Cyrodiil, just south of the Imperial City and north of Leyawiin.
you may kill any innocent NPC to meet this requirement to enter the Dark Brotherhood inOblivion, but be careful, as some NPCs are tied to quests. Beggars outside the Imperial City tend to make for safe targets.
Fast-travel to the Bravil West Gate, then look around the streets of the city for an NPC named Wretched Aia. This Beggar NPC tends to wander around Bravil’s church, even at night, so you’re able to easily catch her unaware and without anyone to notice your crime.
Using your Sneak skills, walk up behind Wretched Aia, and either shoot her with an arrow or stab her with a melee weapon from stealth to deal extra Sneak damage –she has very low Health. Then, you should see a pop-up in the top-left of the screen that reads “Your killing has been observed by forces unknown…”
Step Two: Complete “A Knife In The Dark” At The Inn Of Ill Omen
After you kill an innocent NPC, head to the nearest Inn or find a bedroll to sleep in. When you wake up, you will be greeted by the Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood, Lucien Lachance. He will tell you that you are a “cold blooded killer, capable of taking life without mercy or remorse” and offer you a home amongst the Dark Brotherhood, in the embrace of the Night Mother.
But first, you mustcomplete the Dark Brotherhood initiation quest, “A Knife In The Dark”.Oblivion Remasteredplayers will be directed to kill a man named Rufio in the Inn of Ill Omen, just north along the path from Bravil. Lachance gives you the Blade of Woe to complete this task.
Head to the Inn of Ill Omen and speak with the innkeeper to learn that Rufio is staying in the rooms below. Enter the rooms, and enable Stealth as you enter the far room on the left. If you come at night, Rufio will be found sleeping in bed. Sneak up to him, and use the Blade of Woe to kill Rufio and complete your initiation.
Step Three: Report To The Cheydinhal Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary
After you kill Rufio,Oblivion Remasteredplayers should sleep in Rufio’s bed to trigger the final part of the Dark Brotherhood initiation quest (though you may just as well sleep in any bed, Rufio’s bed is perfectly suitable). Lucien Lachance will once again appear when you wake up, and offer you entry into the Dark Brotherhood’s Cheydinhal Sanctuary.
To enter, you must find the Ancient Black Door beneath a boarded-up house in the eastern part of Cheydinhal. Cheydinhal itself is located in the northeastern region of Cyrodiil. Look for the boarded-up house, use a Lockpick to break in, then walk through the caverns until you find the door.
When asked “What is the color of night?”, respond with “Sanguine, my Brother.”
You will only have this option if Lucien Lachance has revealed it to you. If you find the door on your own without killing Rufio, you will be locked out until your character discovers this passphrase.
Enter the Sanctuary and talk to Ocheeva to officially join the Dark Brotherhood.Oblivion Remasteredplayers will then receivea set of Shrouded Armor and a Shrouded Hood, which confer huge bonuses to various stats.
After this, talk to other members of the Dark Brotherhood, then find Vincente Valtieri, a vampire who will give you your first official Dark Brotherhood contracts.
