Summary
It’s been confirmed that theNintendo Switch 2will not have achievements. TheNintendo Switch 2is the next-generation handheld/home console hybrid from Nintendo, set to launch on June 5. Nintendo recently hosted a special Switch 2 Direct where it revealed the console’s price, release date, and launch lineup, building significant hype for the new system.
Not everything that’s been announced about the Switch 2 has been well-received, however. TheSwitch 2 game price debaclehas drawn the ire of many fans who are upset that Nintendo is charging $80 for the digital version ofMario Kart Worldand a whopping $90 for the physical release. There have also been some complaints thatNintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, effectively a tutorial game designed to teach people about the Switch 2’s unique capabilities, is being sold as a paid digital release instead of being given away as a pack-in title.
Now yet another disappointing detail has come to light with regard to the Nintendo Switch 2.In an interview with Polygon, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will not have achievements. While individual games can have their own in-game achievements, there will not be a system-wide achievement or trophy system like the ones found on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, the Epic Games Store, etc.
Nintendo Switch 2 Won’t Have Achievements
Achievement and trophy hunters will no doubt be disappointed to learn that the Switch 2 is skipping achievements, but longtime Nintendo fans likely assumed this to be the case. After all, Nintendo did not feature an achievement/trophy system on the Wii, Wii U,or the original Nintendo Switch. Nintendo doesn’t seem interested in the feature, despite its popularity. For some, this may influence which system they purchase multi-platform games for, but others don’t care about achievements/trophies and won’t be swayed by the lack of the feature on the Switch 2.
Still, itwould have been nice for the Switch 2 to have an achievement system, as it’s become the norm. There are those who enjoy unlocking them, and those that don’t care about achievements can simply choose to ignore them.
There may still be some disappointing news for the Switch 2 on the horizon. Even though Nintendo announced the Switch 2 price to be $449.99, there is a chance that the console could get a price hikein response to Trump’s tariffs. Nintendo delayed the Switch 2 pre-order date in the US from April 9 to an undetermined point in the future after the tariffs were announced so that it could assess their impact, suggesting that a price increase could very well be in the cards.
