2025 is shaping up to be another great year for anime, with every season containing a plethora of huge shows that will dominate online discussions for a few months. In terms of2025 shonen anime, sequels likeDandadan,Kaiju No. 8,My Hero Academia,Fire Force, andSpy x Familyare just a few of the returning names that will certainly be massive (and, hopefully, great).
While known properties tend to hog the limelight, the year is not lacking in noteworthy newcomers either. For the most part,new shonen 2025 animeoutnumber sequels in most seasons, and there is always the chance that the demographic’s next success story is right around the corner. Let’s highlight all theupcoming shonen anime, along with the ones that have already completed their 2025 runs.
A rare shonenboys love anime,Babanbabanban Vampireis, admittedly, primarily a comedy and not a romance. Ranmaru, a vampire, has been living with the Tatsuno family for years, secretly waiting for the day when Rihito turns 18. At that point, the vamp will take a long-awaited bite. However, Ranmaru only feasts on virgins, a requirement that comes under jeopardy when Rihitio develops a crush on a girl. While not for everyone,Babanbabanban Vampirecan be an entertaining dark comedy.
Arguably the weakest Winter2025 shonen anime,Bogus Skillis set in a fantasy world where people eat a fruit to acquire an ability, which will then dictate their profession and prospects. Light seems to pull the short straw when he picks up the Fruitmaster skill that allows him to quickly grow fruit; however, it also lets him consume multiple superpowered Fruits, so he can amass an assortment of skills. While the concept isn’t that bad, the anime is pretty forgettable.
A shonenisekai harem,The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another Worldsurprisingly features an adult protagonist, something that is rare for the demographic and genres. Ken’ichi starts a new life in a fantasy world, and his cool ability is that he can buy nearly anything through a magical store. Before he knows it, Ken’ichi starts to attract interest from women, developing something of a makeshift family. Although mostly just for harem and isekai fans, this is a perfectly watchable show.
A light novel that was adapted into a shonen manga,I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Timeis carried entirely by its main character, Alina Clover. All she wants to do is work a normal 9-5 shift as a receptionist at an adventurers' guild, but she has to constantly put in overtime as the parties cannot seem to clear a dungeon on time. Consequently, she decides to use her overpowered hammer to demolish bosses herself, all in the hopes of keeping the paperwork to a minimum. Considering its premise,I May Be a Guild Receptionisttakes itself surprisingly seriously, particularly during the second half of the Winter 2025 season. That said, it is a decent actionshonen animewith a likable protagonist.
A reincarnation isekai anime,Magic Makerhas somewhat of a unique twist to the genre’s formula. Shion is obsessed with magic, but he is reborn into a world that does not seem to have it. Consequently, he decides to just develop the concept himself, practicing to the point that he becomes a powerful magic user. For the most part,Magic Makerfocuses on Shion’s experiments to improve his magic, and these sequences are quite interesting.
Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms
Mona is perfect. Everybody knows it, except for Medaka. For some reason, Mona’s irresistible charm not only fails to affect her new classmate but seems to just annoy him. Refusing to let this injustice persist, she goes out of her way to impress Medaka, a journey that might spark genuine feelings.Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charmsis an OK shonen comedy with hints of romance, and season 2 has already been confirmed.
An entertaining twist on the isekai formula,The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another Worldis an unabashed love letter to sentai. The eponymous ranger plummets head-first into a new world, and he instantly decides to become an adventurer so he can keep helping people. Forming a party with a mage, princess, and knight, Tougo will use the power of bonds to make his new home a better place. Blending comedy and action,The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another Worldoffers silly fun that never takes itself seriously. Even more so than isekai, sentai fans will want to check this2025 shonen animeout.
Unquestionably the most hypednew shonen animeof Winter 2025,Sakamoto Daysended up being pretty good, even if it arguably struggled to live up to the quality of the source material. Adeadly and legendary assassin, Sakamoto retired after falling in love, and he now runs a convenience store with his family. However, peaceful days are rare, as he finds himself targeted for assassination. Before long, he inadvertently recruits a few powerful allies who are looking for a place to call home. While far from flawless,Sakamoto Daysis a fun battle shonen with plenty of hilarious humor.
A delightful slow-life isekai/reverse isekai anime,Welcome To Japan, Ms. Elf!has a cool universe-traveling mechanic. Kuzuhiro visits another world while he sleeps, and he learns that he can bring something with him if he is holding it when he dies or naps. This “something” ends up being Marie, an elf who is very, very excited by Japan’s modern sensibilities. Spending equal time in both worlds,Welcome To Japan, Ms. Elf!is cozy and cute.
A rare seasonalrelease by Shaft,A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roofshould be one of the funniestshonen 2025 anime. The title pretty much explains the hook, which lends itself perfectly to odd-couple comedy territory. Accidentally running away from her ninja clan, Satoko is in deep waters, so she clings to anybody willing to help. That person ends up being the reluctant Konoha, an assassin who is extremely proficient at killing. Together they make an awkward but deadly duo.
Yu and Himari have been inseparable for years. While they are just friends, the latter seems to carry feelings for the former, but she has grown complacent by believing that nobody is capable of building as strong of a connection with Yu. This assumption is tested when Rion enters the picture, someone who has a past and potentially a romantic present with Yu. Himari wants to step aside to let them flourish, but that might be easier said than done.
One of quite a few Spring 2025 anime that are not available on North American streaming platforms,The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-senseiis shaping up to be among the season’s bettermystery shows. Kanna just cannot ignore anything, which leads her to explore an old school building that is rumored to be haunted. In truth, the “ghost” is her new teacher, the sophisticated Akihiko. He can and will solve any mystery.
A massive spin-off,Vigilantesis a prequel toMy Hero Academia, albeit one that only connects loosely to the main show. As such, newcomers can just jump into the Spring 2025 series without worrying too much, even if they might feel a bit lost at times. Koichi wants to do good, but he does not have a powerful enough Quirk to become a Pro Hero. However, after meeting a vigilante named Knuckleduster, he starts to believe that he can make a genuine difference.
Fanservice is hardly unexplored by shonen, but most shows tend to sprinkle in a few shots rather than revolve around the concept.Please Put Them On, Takamine-sanis an exception, with the anime falling squarely into ecchi territory. Koushi learns that his school’s perfect student council president maintains her image by using a special power that lets her reverse time. The catch? She needs to remove a piece of underwear to activate it. When her secret is revealed, Takane blackmails Koushi into assisting her, starting a peculiar relationship.
Based on a manga by the author responsible forSket Dance,Witch Watchis a hilarious shonen comedy that has some light romance elements. After completing her witch training,Nico returns to her hometown and reunites with Morihito, her childhood friend and an ogre (who looks like a human). To his mild frustration, Morihito becomes Nico’s familiar, a role that requires him to protect the witch from others and, mostly, herself. Hilarity ensues.
Wit Studio’s adaptation of a classic shonen manga is shaping up to be amongSpring 2025’s best anime.Yaiba: Samurai Legendvery much feels like a ’90s show, which is by no means a criticism. The eponymous samurai is a young kid who has spent his life battling gorillas in the jungle, training that might not have prepared him for city life. With fantastic animation, great comedy, and a fast-paced story with a strong sense of adventure,Yaibais a timeless delight that should be checked out by battle shonen fans.

The Summer 2025 lineup is largely complete by this point, and the season has some of the most excitingshonen anime of 2025. Admittedly,sequels likeDandadanandCall of the Nightwill probably dominate the discourse, but there are plenty of intriguing new shows as well.
