A new trailer for the reboot of the anime adaptation oflegendary mangaka Riyoko Ikeda’sThe Rose of Versaillesdropped on the Netflix Anime YouTube channel revealed that the recently released film will be available on the streaming platform from April 30.
The film, which is a reboot in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1972The Rose of Versaillesmanga, will also have an English dub, withSolo LevelingADR Director Caitlin Glass playing the role of protagonist Oscar François de Jarjayes. The movie premiered in Japan on January 31, and debuted at number 9 in the top ten at the Box Office in its opening weekend, earning 108,158,300 yen (approx. US$704,200) in its first three days.

The Rose of Versailles(2025)is an animated film adaptation of the legendary 1972 shōjo classic by Riyoko Ikeda, a title that is lauded as one of the greatest works of the medium with an indisputable impact on shōjo manga as part of the late 1960s, early 1970s “Gekiga” wave of more thematically complex narratives in shōjo manga, shifting the demographic from young children to adolescents and young adults.
The plot is set in 18th century France in the years leading up to the French Revolution and follows Oscar François de Jarjayes, Commander of the French Royal Guard, who was raised as the “son” and heir of a general’s family and masquerades as a beautiful woman in men’s clothing; and Marie Antoinette,who arrives from neighbouring Austriaafter being wed to the Dauphin to seal the alliance between his grandfather Louis XV and her mother, Empress Maria Theresa of Austria.
The film is produced by MAPPA, with Ai Yoshimura serving as director, Tomoko Konparu on the script and Mariko Oka as character designer. The cast of The Rose of Versailles includes:
