Adi Shankar’sDevil May Cryis finally available to stream on Netflix, and it isas good as fans expected. The new take on Dante’s story is incredible, and while the anime series features several characters from the popular video game series, it also introduces some original characters. The first season of the anime series was about Dante discovering his true identity and embracing Sparda’s demon blood flowing in his veins.
The White Rabbitwas an incredible villain for the first season, and he pushed Dante to his limits. Somehow, Dante prevented Armageddon and defeated the Rabbit with the help of Mary. That being said, a new threat now looms over Sparda’s son. He has yet to face the true enemies of his story, who were teased in the final moments of Season 1.

The Savior Of Humanity Is A Hybrid
From childhood,Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch)had superhuman strength and speed, which is precisely why he became such a feared demon hunter. On top of that, he had extraordinary healing, so it became extremely difficult for any enemy to kill him. However, these abilities weren’t a gift from God; instead, they were ablessing from the Devil.
Sparda was the strongest warrior in Mundus' army. Two millennia before the current events, the demon and human realms were adjoined, so Mundus wanted to conquer humanity and rule over both worlds. However, Sparda’s consciousness compelled him tostop Sparda from committing this genocide. The demon not only defeated countless soldiers in the demon army but also created a barrier between the two worlds through a spell.
The barrier prevented the demons from entering the human world. While Sparda stayed in the human realm and became a hero of humanity, Mundus stayed in the demon realm and exploited its resources. Eventually,Sparda came in contact with a human woman and had two children, Dante and Vergil.Being the sons of a demon, both Dante and Vergil were incredibly powerful, but the boys didn’t know that their father was a demon. Sparda, for some reason, left his family, and the boys were left in the care of his mother.

Even though the barrier was efficient, it still had some flaws.An anomaly caused some interdimensional portals to appear for short durations. Mundus held immense hatred for Sparda, but he couldn’t use the portal himself because it didn’t allow any bigger or more powerful demons to cross between worlds. Weaker demon spawns, on the other hand, were able to use the portals freely, if they knew the portal’s location. Mundus wanted Sparda to experience pain, so hesent some of his soldiers through the portal to kill the demon’s family.
The weakling demons found Sparda’s family and killed Dante’s mother and brother while the boy stayed hidden. Dante saw his family die at the hands of demons, but he couldn’t do anything because he was still a child. After growing up,Dante used his powers to kill demons, as long as he got paid. Killing demons was his way of getting revenge for what happened to his family.
The White Rabbit Wasn’t A Demon After All
He Was A Human Who Wanted To Give Ordinary Demons A Chance At Survival
Initially, viewers thought that the White Rabbit was some sort of demon, but that wasn’t the case. Instead,he was a human who crossed over to the demon realm through a portal when he was a child. While everyone shunned him in the human realm, the boy found acceptance among demons. He grew up in Hell and led a happy life, until the demon realm’s toxic air killed several demons that he loved. The human boy didn’t want ordinary demons to succumb to their deaths because of the toxic air, so he created a device to track the appearance of interdimensional portals.
The human boy thought he couldsave these innocent demons by bringing them over to the human realm. However, these demons, who had nothing to do with the Holy War, were killed by Mary and her DARKCOM allies. The boy had experienced enough loss, so instead of bringing these selective demons over peacefully, he decides to break the barrier between the two worlds. The Rabbit knew that once the barrier was gone, humanity would be overrun by demons who aren’t exactly peaceful. But he was ready topay that price so that the demons would get equal opportunity to survive.He despised humanity for having the privilege of fresh air while they ignored the unseen world of Makai.
Before the boy could advance a war against humans, he had to become stronger to take on Dante and the DARKCOM soldiers. So, hecreated a device to maintain a constant flow of demon blood inside his body, which gave him incredible strength and extraordinary healing. Because he was a big fan of Alice in Wonderland, hecreated a Rabbit mask to conceal his true identity.
The White Rabbit’s Final Attempt To Break Sparda’s Barrier
The White Rabbit knew that he would need a few things to break Sparda’s barrier. He needed Sparda’s sword, the two amulets that transmit the power, and the blood of Dante and Vergil.The Rabbit had to collect Dante’s blood after he had achieved his Devil Trigger form. That is why he taunts and pushes Dante to his limits so that the boy can unlock the Devil’s power inside of him. In the end, the Rabbit got everything he needed, but the combined efforts of Dante and Mary came in his way.The barrier was open, but not for long, as Dante cut the Rabbit’s body in half with his sword.

Mary Betrays Dante And Prevents Him From Finding His Brother
The barrier stays, but the interdimensional portals still appear in both realms. This time, William Baines, the Vice President of America, decides tolaunch an attack on Makai,believing that he is doing “the Lord’s work.” The U.S. Army kills several innocent demons and creates a massive military base in Hell in a short span of time. However, the arrogant man doesn’t know that thebiggest threat awaits him in the Demon Realm, including Mundus.
Dante’s biggest revelation was thathis brother was still alive. Vergil was possibly abducted by the demons who attacked all those years back. While Dante believed that his brother had died,Vergil was being brainwashed by Mundus to fight on the demons' side. In fact, it was Vergil himself who gave his half of the Amulet, along with his blood, to the White Rabbit.
Dante didn’t want to abandon his brother, but Mary betrayed him before he could go after Vergil. Mary knew that Vice President William Baines had been committing genocide, but she still followed his command. She knew he was the key to all of this, so theLieutenant paralyzed Dante by injecting him with a serum. Banes put Dante in a deep sleep and also got possession of Sparda’s sword and the Amulet. While Dante is being held captive at some U.S. Military facility, Vergil is ready to lead the demon army against the humans. Now, in Season 2 ofDevil May Cry, Dante will not only have to fight Vergil and Mundus, but he will also have to fight the U.S. Army.
