Summary

Masashi Kishimoto’sNarutoseries is one of the most iconic anime and manga series out there even a decade after its conclusion.Narutoremains to be incredibly popular even now, and much of that is down tothe incredible impact that Kishimoto’s brilliant writinghad on the fans.

Kishimoto challenged himself to produce one arc greater than the other as the story progressed, and while the Naruto series was entertaining throughout, fans know that there are some arcs that gave Kishimoto more of a headache than others. In fact, Kishimoto has already revealed which arc was the most challenging for him to draw.

The Hardest Arc For Kishimoto To Draw In Naruto

When it comes to the most difficult arc for Kishimoto to write, it is implied that the Fourth Great Ninja War is one of them. Kishimoto states this himself in one of his interviews, where he comments about the many changes that the story oversaw after Naruto Uzumaki fighting and beating Pain. From this point onwards, Naruto had grown a lot.

Those who don’t understand true pain will never understand true peace. — Pain in Naruto

Pain specifically commented that Naruto hadn’t experienced war, so he was not in a position to dictate whether Nagato’s actions were right or wrong. For Kishimoto, the War arc was the perfect stage for him to have Naruto experience just that. This part of the story was the most crucial, as Naruto would finally go on to experience war himself and arrive at a conclusion about how to achieve true peace.

According to Kishimoto, Naruto’s actionsin the Pain Arcmeant that he couldn’t back down anymore from drawing a war that Naruto was central to. This was especially challenging because Naruto Uzumaki couldn’t kill his enemies. To Kishimoto, this posed a big problem and he felt the idea was getting state. As a result, he made use of Zetsu and Edo Tensei in the war to give Naruto enemies to defeat and not just use his words. It is highly likely that Kaguya came into the story with a similar thinking in mind.

The Chunin Exams Were Also Difficult For Kishimoto

For entirely different reasons, the Chunin Exams arc was also difficult for Kishimoto to illustrate. This is because he didn’t want to draw the arc at all. Drawing a tournament after coming up with new characters from different villages on the spot was a massive challenge for Kishimoto and one that he said he would die of when he was asked to draw it by his editors. In the end, Kishimoto rose to the challenge, as always, and delivered a memorable arc.

Did The Fourth Great Ninja War Live Up To Fan Expectations?

In general, the Fourth Great Ninja Warmakes up for a significant portion of the Naruto series, and it goes without saying that this part of the story is absolutely amazing. It has some of the best moments in Naruto and sees Naruto Uzumaki develop like no other arc. This arc also brings multiple characters together, and that in itself makes the Fourth Great Ninja War arc very special. That said, this arc also features some of the weakest parts of the story, such as the Kaguya conundrum, and several points in the war that are just not that exciting. Overall, while not the best arc, the Fourth Great Ninja War is solid, and certainly has some of the very best and most memorable Naruto moments.
