Summary

Despite being revealed fairly late intoMy Hero Academia’s story, the Meta Liberation Army ends up playing a pretty huge role in the grand scheme of things. Led by the devious and charismatic Re-Destro, this group’s primary goal is to break the confines that have been set by the heroes, allowing the average citizen to be proud of their Quirks and be able to use them when they please, rather than being forced to hide their abilities.

The group’s message ended up attracting countless followers to their cause, but the most important characters within this faction are the commanders. These dangerous individuals play a big part in spreading the details of their cause while also using their own abilities to deal with anyone who tries standing in the way of them fulfilling their mission. With that being said, when looking at the intrigue of their characters, their abilities, designs, and relevance to the wider story ofMy Hero Academia, this is how the notable members of the Meta Liberation Army rank when stacked up against one another.

7Slidin' Go

A Plucky Villain Who Was Able To Use His Appearance To Trick The Heroes

When Slidin' Go first shows up in the series, he appears to be some kind of aloof hero who has seemingly recently joined the ranks, but this is all part of his facade, which hides his true identity as a member of the Meta Liberation Army. Thanks to his bright, vibrant, and happy-go-luck appearance, though, Slidin' Go was able to portray himself as a top hero to gather information for Re-Destro and the others, though he wouldn’t be around for too long.

On the day of the hospital raid, all Pro-Heroes were ordered to avoid their patrol, which made it easy to catch Slidin' Go out as a phony when he rocked up to conduct some “hero work” once again. Slidin' Go is a pretty intriguing character, but hedoesn’t receive quite enough screentimeto be explored in great depth. Still, he’s a fun villain to be around.

6Trumpet

Trumpet’s Influence As A Politician Makes Him A Valuable Ally To Have

On the surface, Koku Hanabata can seem like any other well-dressed politician, but in truth, he’s dedicated his loyalty to Re-Destro and the Meta Liberation Army. Koku, or Trumpet as he’s commonly known, can boost the spirit and morale of anyone that gets in close proximity to himthanks to his Quirk, making him a valuable ally for the army, considering how easily he could rally a group of citizens to do their dirty work for them.

There’s always an eerie aura of mystery surrounding Trumpet, and it makes him a joy to watch on-screen because of how unpredictable he is. Though he doesn’t get quite as much of a focus as his comrades, Trumpet is still memorable for his unique Quirk ability and position within the story as being someone of two affiliations.

5Geten

Re-Destro’s Most Loyal Sidekick Who Has An Unhealthy Obsession With Power

Geten is a commander who is utterly obsessed with being the strongest, and in order to achieve this loft goal, they have gone to extreme lengths to master their Meta ability, which allows him to manipulate and control ice. This makes for some truly epic battle scenes, such as when Dabi is forced to use his flames to break through Geten’s defenses, highlighting just how strong this freedom fighter truly is.

Outside of their flashy fighting style, Geten also has a pretty interesting backstory as someone who was brought in by Re-Destro and came to view the world in a sort of Darwinistic lens, where only those withthe strongest Quirksshould be able to rule. There’s a lot to love about Geten, and it would have been great for him to have stuck around for just a bit longer in the story.

4Curious

The Quirky Reporter Who Will Try To Get The Latest Scoop By Any Means Necessary

As her name implies, Curious is a reporter who is always putting her nose in other peoples' business in order to grab the latest headline, but what makes her such a fun character to watch is how she feeds this into her battles. When Curious goes toe-to-toe with Toga, though she does attack, block, and avoid attacks, Curious also treats the fight like one big interview, getting to the core of Toga’s personal trauma over the course of the battle.

Though the fight didn’t end well for Curious, her funky personality and unique fighting style still helped to make her one of the most memorable units in the Meta Liberation’s forces. She would also be a crucial character for Toga, who would first awaken her Quirk while facing off against the malicious reporter.

3Destro

A Legendary Figure Who Has Left A Longlasting Legacy

Destro actually doesn’t physically appear in the main series, though he is mentioned an awful lot, with the first instance of this being when Gentle speaks his name while fighting Midoriya. Destro was the original leader of the Meta Liberation Army at a time when Quirks had started becoming regulated and monitored by the heroes, something Destro saw as trampling over people’s civil liberties.

The rebellious figure would eventually die while locked away, but his influence would live on through his book: Meta Liberation War. His ideas and beliefs would go on to inspire an entire army of loyal followers, resulting in him having a huge impact on the main story, despite being long gone by the time Re-Destro decides to continue on his life’s work.

2Skeptic

With A Funky “Feel Good” Design And A Big Part To Play In The Story, Skeptic Has Become A Fan Favorite

Skeptic initially seems like little more than a grunt for Re-Destro, who would use his tech skills to keep tabs on the heroes from behind the scenes, but he actually becomes quite a common sight over the course of the story. One of his most notable contributions to the story was broadcasting Dabi’s dance to the entire country, which eventually resulted in people losing faith in hero society altogether, leading to its collapse.

However, it’s hard to talk about Skeptic and not also mention hisedgy punk-rock design, which is clearly inspired by the Gorillaz aesthetic, specifically the band member Noodle. Hats go off to Horikoshi for the sheer amount of creativity that went into designing this guy, but he also earns bonus points for being so important and relevant in the story.

1Re-Destro

Re-Destro Is A Fascinating Character With Big Ambitions And A Unique Quirk

Re-Destro has dedicated his life to carrying on Destro’s legacy in allowing people to live without the restrictions set on them by hero society, though it’s honestly admirable just how dedicated Re-Destro is to the cause. While he’s definitely a very violent and insidious individual, Re-Destro’s determination to achieve Destro’s original goal makes him much more than just a one-note villain, especially when also throwing his Stress Quirk into the equation.

Any time Re-Destro starts to get a little worked up and stressed, his body will begin mutating, and as he made clear with Shigaraki, he can become powerful enough to obliterate almost anyone in this form through sheer physical strength alone. Hismain strength lies in being a strategist, though, where he is able to manage and develop his army, all while remaining completely off the government’s radar. Re-Desto is one of the most fascinating villains in the series. He steals every scene he’s in with his infectious charisma and jaw-dropping abilities.
