Summary

The average person inMy Hero Academiawill beborn with a Quirkthat they will then learn to use and eventually master after putting in enough practice. While it’s rare for a person to enter the world without a Quirk, what is even more of a rarity is someone being gifted a Quirk, considering this is often seen as very unusual and taboo within hero society as a whole.

Despite that, being given a Quirk can encourage a person to make full use of their newfound ability, pushing their body and soul to the limit in order to make the most of the gift they’ve been blessed with, whether it be for serving justice or committing villainous crimes. It may not be a common occurrence, but these characters listed below are the few examples of those who, one way or another, retrieved a Quirk from another person that would go on to aid them in battle. Before jumping in, since One For All has been passed down through several people, Midoriya and All Might will be the ones considered, since they are most relevant to the story.

7Yuga Aoyama

To Avoid Being Seen As A Quirkless Nobody, Aoyama’s Family Bargained With All For One

Though the world ofMy Hero Academiacan seem very fun and vibrant at a glance, it’s also one filled with a lot of discrimination and prejudice. While those who possessvillainous Quirks, such as Shinso, receive a lot of flak, those who aren’t born with a Quirk at all, as was the case with Aoyama, are also at high risk of being bullied and belittled.

Since Aoyama was born into a wealthy family, his parents turned to All For One in the hopes that he could give the boy an ability good enough for him to become a hero, worthy of his prestigious family name. This wasn’t revealed until a little before the final war, but there were some subtle indications that something wasn’t quite right with him, such as how Aoyama struggled to master his Quirk when the rest of class 1-A was getting on just fine.

6U.S.J. Nomu

Dr. Garaki Turned The U.S.J. Nomu Into The Ultimate Killing Machine By Bolstering Its Durability With Quirks

The Nomu that appears in the U.S.J. arc is alreadyscary enough to look atwith its gigantic muscular frame and the brain popping out of its head, but what makes this beast especially eerie is the fact that it just won’t stay down. When experimenting on this Nomu, Garaki infused it with Shock Absorption in an attempt to make it invulnerable to any attack, even those thrown out by the absurdly strong All Might.

While All Might did eventually manage to overcome the Quirk, it was only after a barrage of attacks that pushed the Nomu’s regenerative abilities as far as they could go. Considering the amount of chaos this Nomu caused, one can only imagine how terrifying things could get if an army of Quirk-wielding Nomus were unleashed onto the world.

5Kurogiri

Oboro Was “Given” A Brand New Quirk While Being Transformed Into A Nomu

Initially, Kuogiri seems like little more than Shigaraki’s own personalspooky butlerwho is able to use his Warp Gates as a way to get the League out of danger, but it eventually becomes clear there’s much more to him than meets the eye. It would eventually be revealed that Kurogiri is none other than Oboro, one of Aizawa’s close childhood friends thought to have been killed in the line of duty.

In reality, All For One recovered his corpse and ordered Doctor Garaki to turn the boy into a monstrous Nomu. This involved infusing Oboro’s body full of Quirks, which eventually resulted in his Cloud Quirk mutating into the Warp Gates, so while not entirely original, it’s still a brand-new ability that ended up being extremely helpful in executing the heroes' divide and conquer plan in the final war.

4Lady Nagant

Nagant Earned Air Walk As Part Of A Deal With All For One

When Lady Nagant decided to turn her back on hero society after being used as little more than a murderous pawn by the Public Safety Commission, she was already in possession of the Rifle Quirk, which was so strong that it earned her the title ofbest sharpshooter in all of Japan. However, All For One decided to entice the former Pro-Hero to help him tear down society by offering her Air Walk; a Quirk he himself had stolen and was now willing to share with his latest follower.

Air Walk is a Quirk that perfectly suits Nagant’s fighting style, considering it allows her to reach high vantage points where she can pick off anyone she considers a threat from a safe distance. It may have been a handy tool for Nagant to use, but it was also a form of blackmail by All For One as a way to ensure her loyalty to his cause.

3Shigaraki

All For One Granted His Successor A Wide Range Of Dangerous Quirks To Enhance His Strength And Survivability In Combat

As if Shigaraki wasn’t already powerful enough with his explosive Decay Quirk, which would eventually be capable of flattening entire cities, Shigaraki would be given one final trump card; One For All. Thanks to a little help from Doctor Garaki, Shigaraki’s body would become strong enough to acquire multiple Quirks just like his master, which would end up making him arguably even more dangerous than All For One himself.

However, it’s revealed near the end of the story that All For One has actually been sharing Quirks with Shigaraki for his entire life, since he had passed Decay to Shigaraki when he was still young. As a result, the tragic death of Shigaraki’s entire family, which he thought was from his own natural ability, had actually been a result of an ability planted in him as the first step in All For One’s mission to groom Shigaraki into becoming the perfect world-hating student.

2Midoriya

One For All Has Been Passed Down Between Generations, But Midoriya Was The One To Fulfill Its Purpose

Technically, there have been multiple people who have come to obtain the immensely powerful Quirk known as One For All, but it would be Midoriya who eventually came to use it to full effectiveness. Despite being born Quirkless, Midoriya always looked up to All Might and was desperate to become a hero by any means possible. His fiery passion eventually caught the attention of All Might himself, who decided to make Midoriya the latest successor of One For All, kicking off his grand adventure to become a hero.

By the time the Quirk had made its way to Midoriya, all the previous users' Quirks had been able to converge, giving Midoriya the strength he needed to defeat Shigaraki and wipe out all lasting remnants of One For All. Midoriya may end up Quirkless once again after he sacrifices his power to end the war, but being lucky enough to acquire One For All was still a moment that changed his entire life, and it allowed him to live his childhood dream of becoming a hero.

1All Might

All Might Became The Central Pillar Of Hero Society After Acquiring One For All

Though it’s only mentioned as a one-off comment, All Might does eventually admit to Midoriya that, just like his young protégé, he was also born without a Quirk to his name. Everything changed for him, though, once he was given One For All by his beloved mentor, Nana Shimura, who was fully confident Toshinori would be able to create a society of peace by utilizing the underlying strength of thelegendary Quirk.

All Might’s strength, speed, and durability are all significantly enhanced thanks to his Quirk, allowing him to obliterate any villains who dare to stand up to him. He would become so feared in the villain world that All Might came close to driving Japan’s crime rate down to 0%, highlighting just how insanely strong this guy really was thanks to the blessing handed to him by Nana.
