Summary
In the world ofOne Piece, which is full of backstabbing pirates and dangerous marines, being two-faced is a common survival technique that can help get a character out of a sticky situation or help them form a new deadly alliance by hiding their true intentions. Being two-faced refers to a character who can speak and act in a certain way to win someone over, but who is secretly a much different person behind closed doors.
Forthright and honest characters aren’t always easy to come across inOne Piece, so needless to say, there have been plenty of people who have showcased this negative character trait for their own unique set of reasons. Despite this, however, being two-faced can also add some intrigue to a character who may have seemed a little one-note on the surface as fans are forced to guess what their true underlying intentions truly are. These are the most notableOne Piececharacters who have cleverly used their quick wits and acting skills to fool the people they’ve come across in their adventures.
1Arlong
Arlong Proved He Was Not Above Saying One Thing And Meaning Another When He Tricked Nami
Arlong is a Fishman who hates humans with every fiber of his being, which is why he decided to terrorize the residents of Cocayasi Village as soon as he disembarked with his rag-tag crew of pirates. After Arlong murdersNami’s mother, the violent Fishman would strike a deal with the young girl; if she could collect enough Berries, he would let her village go and retire his tyranny once and for all.
He may be as sadistic as they come, but for a moment, it does seem as though Arlong is at least honorable enough to accept a promise - that is, until Nami turns tail on the Straw Hats and gives him the treasure that was agreed upon. Without a moment of hesitation, Arlong went back on his word and was happy to continue forcing Nami to draw maps for him if Luffy and the gang hadn’t gotten involved when they did.
2Orochi
The Cowardly Shogun Of Wano Is A Master At Lying To Achieve His Malicious Goals
After witnessing thehumiliationand death of his father at a young age, Orochi would come to harbor a burning hatred for the people of Wano. To get his revenge, he needed to become shogun, which he managed to pull off by acting all innocent and passive while secretly being a master manipulator who played a big part in the death of Kouzuki Oden.
Orochi is one of the biggest cowards in the series, and that’s exactly why he feels the need to put on such an act any time he’s in danger, so that he can save his skin and continue to spread as much suffering as possible across Wano. Orochi may have seemed like little more than a sympathetic youngster at first, but someone much more sinister lay beneath the exterior.
3Katakuri
Katakuri Tries To Maintain A Strong And Sturdy Persona To Hide A More Embarrasing Side Of Himself
As one of Big Mom’s threeSweet Commanders, Katakuri has a reputation to uphold. As a result, he presents himself as a cold-hearted and serious warrior who is largely unfazed by everything going on around him, and while he’s not faking this side of himself, he does also rely on it to hide his softer and more fun-loving side, which is inspired by his love of food.
As a child, Katakuri was bullied relentlessly for his mouth, which only expanded because he was obsessed with munching on donuts. This eventually came back on his sister, Brulee, who was attacked after Katakuri decided to pummel a few of his bullies after they mocked him. To keep this side of him from ever being exposed again, Katakuri wears a white scarf around his mouth and leans heavily into his dark and moody persona to look the part of his prestigious position on the crew.
4Kouzuki Hiyori
To Survive In Orochi’s Wano, Hiyori Became Someone Else Entirely
OnceKaido and Orochiseized control of Wano and burned down Oden Castle as a symbol of their terror, Momonosuke and a few of Oden’s Scabbards were warped 20 years into the future, but this wasn’t the case for Hiyori. The sister of the future-shogun Momonosuke and daughter of Oden found herself in a crime-ridden Wano with only Kawamatsu the Kappa to protect her, but once he was imprisoned by Kaido’s pirates, she took it upon herself to change her identity.
Hiyori would become Komurasaki, a beautiful courtesan who was admired not just by the people of Wano but also the insidious Orochi, who would regularly invite her to his banquets. Despite still being adamantly loyal to the samurai, Hiyori can play this part extremely well, and the fact that her cover completely breaks as soon as she hears Momonosuke’s name highlights just how long she had been waiting to hear such good news.
5X Drake
Drake Will Tell The Enemy Anything They Want To Hear So That He Can Learn More About Them For The Marines
When Drake is on duty, that is, when he’s acting as a spy for the marines, he will play the part of being a member of the Worst Generation, though he is essentially a gun for hire. This makes it easy for him to infiltrate the enemy ranks, such as joining up withthe Tobi Roppo, where he seems dedicated to the mission at hand, despite his personality still being largely the same.
In actuality, Drake is a member of SWORD, a secret marine group who are essentially used for carrying out espionage missions while remaining undercover. As part of his job, Drake has lied to the majority of the characters he has encountered along his adventures as a way to hide who he truly is.
6Denjiro
Denjiro Stayed Close To Orochi Until The Other Scabbards Finally Arrived
Similar to Hiyori, Denjiro decides to disguise himself under a new identity during the 20-year gap before the Red Scabbards made their return toWano, but he acts so drastically different that it’s honestly hard to connect the two. When he went under the name Kyoshiro, Denjiro was a chilled-out and relaxed guardian of Orochi who was more than happy to cross blades with anyone who tried to step up to him or the shogun.
Denjiro would only reveal his true identity when the raid on Onigashima was officially underway, making for a shocking reveal to kick off the mid-section of Wano. Biding his time for 20 whole years couldn’t have been easy, but Denjiro’s impressive acting managed to fool Orochi for long enough so that the plan could succeed.
7Bon Clay
Bon Clay Can Assume The Form Of Anyone He Can Imagine, Allowing Him To Take On Multiple Faces
The Mane Mane no Mi allows Bon Clay to assume the form of anyone he touches, meaning he’s two-faced in the literal kind of sense. Most of the time, he will have the same characteristics and habits of the usual Bon Clay, but he’s proven that he can also act as the person he’s copying, such as when he tried to impersonate Nami while fighting againstSanji in Alabasta.
At heart, Bon Clay is a kind, considerate, and extremely loyal character, but he’s still more than capable of switching his face, literally and figuratively, when he needs to. It was also shown by Higurashi, the old hag who supported Orochi in his rise to power, that this fruit can be used to deceive pretty much everyone, and while Bon Clay is nowhere near as evil as she is, fooling people into believing him is essentially a part of his DNA.
8Pudding
Sanji’s Upbeat Bride Turned Out To Be More Violent And Sadistic Than He Ever Could Have Imagined
When Sanji first meets Pudding, who is set to be his wife due to an arranged marriage set up byBig Mom, she comes across as a pretty sweet and considerate young lady who seems far less crazy than her siblings. This, at least, gives Sanji some confidence that he’ll find happiness again after being forced to leave his crew, but his hopes of a bright future are shattered when he overhears Pudding mocking him in the comforts of her home.
It turns out Pudding was tasked with shooting Sanji during the wedding ceremony under orders from Big Mom, and despite having a troubled relationship with her mother, Pudding reveled in the idea of killing the Straw Hat. When Sanji compliments Pudding’s third eye, though, she suddenly starts to fall for the charming chef, resulting in a kind of split personality. One moment, she would be praising Sanji to the high heavens, while the next, she would be dreaming of the many ways she could carve him up like a wedding cake.
