Red Dead Redemption 2is still hailed as one of the most immersive worlds in gaming, and for good reason. Rockstar’s western adventure blends open-world exploration with well-crafted storytelling, making nearly every corner of the map feel alive, thanks to its various characters and encounters.Red Dead Redemption 2is filled with secrets, and a lot of players have potentially missed some of its most compelling run-ins.
Over the years, players have continued to discover interesting details hiddenwithin the world ofRDR2. The various NPCs players can encounter are often surprisingly three-dimensional, which only makes the game that much more immersive. While plenty of plot-important side characters are easy to come across, there are other NPCs who are merely put in the game for fun, and it’s not hard to miss them.
The Vampire of Saint Denis
This particular NPC is probably one of the most notable, since it seemingly confirms that vampires exist in the Wild West. The various gangs and outlaws spread across the frontier were worrying enough, but Saint Denis confirmed that now Arthur Morgan apparently has to worry about vampires, too.The Vampire of Saint Denisonly appears under a specific condition. Players have to find all five of his writings. Once those are collected, Arthur can witness the vampire in an alley sucking the blood of a poor bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
La Llorona and The Ghost of Agnes Dowd
La Llorona can be found at night in the swamps surrounding Lemoyne. Walking through the bayou, the sound of a crying woman can be heard. If players find her and approach her, she immediately becomes hostile and attacks with a knife. Exploring the bayou at night is scary enough, but the La Llorona encounter can be heart-stopping if one isn’t expecting a jump scare. The Ghost of Agnes Dowdis one ofRDR2’s most well-known mysteries, but she’s also notoriously difficult to come across. She can be seen between the hours of 9PM and 3AM in Bluewater Marsh, but actually seeing her is far easier said than done.
The Ghost of Agnes Dowd has over 15 unique encounters that give deeper insight into her backstory.
The Chelonians
It’s not too difficult tocome across the Cheloniansat first, since a lot of players agree to help Mary. However, they can be encountered again when playing as John Marston. If John returns to the same cliffside years later, he can see the Chelonians jumping to their deaths and even join them as he shouts, “Chelonia!” This second run-in can easily be overlooked, since many may not consider returning to this location.
If Arthur shoots the Chelonian leader, the remaining cultists will jump off the cliff.
The Devil in the Cave
When in Big Valley, a winding trail can lead players to an opening in the side of a rock aptly named Hidden Tunnel. Entering leads Arthur into a vast cave. If he goes deep enough,he’ll encounter the Cave Hermit, who proclaims he is the Devil. The trail to Hidden Tunnel is really easy to miss, which makes the Cave Hermit hard to come by.
Finding a Hunter’s Lost Friend in Cairn Lake
Arthur comes across a hunteraround the Cairn Lake area who is desperately searching for his friend. If players agree to help, they eventually find the friend, but his fate is grim. The friend’s face has been ripped clean off, and while the hunter is grieving, a giant grizzly bear attacks him, mauling him to death. It’s a terrifying encounter that showcases that, despite vampires and ghosts roaming the countryside, nature is still the most terrifying monster.
