Summary

The job of the Marines in the world ofOne Pieceis to maintain the status quo, meaning those who reject the established rules and norms often have big targets on their back and are worth a lot of berries if someone manages to capture them. However, while this does mean many pirates are viewed this way right off the bat because they decide to embark across the seas, there have also been several Marines who rebelled against the system in one way or another, deciding to go against their peers to see out their ideals and beliefs.

The truth is, being a little unpredictable and rebellious can make a character extremely fun to watch, considering how drastically they can change the world through their actions, as has been the case for several key individuals. With that being said, these are theOne Piececharacters who are well-known for their willingness to go against the system and disobey the rules.

8Jinbei

Jinbei Is Prepared To Turn On His Superiors If It’s For The Greater Good

As a prominent figure among the Fishmen, Jinbei has found himself in some pretty unique positions over the course of the series. When he became a Shichibukai to promote Fishmen equality with humans, he eventually defied the Marines' orders and refused to fight against Whitebeard and Luffy during the Marineford War, showing just how dead-set he is on adhering to his personal beliefs.

A little later in the story, he would begrudgingly ally with Big Mom to guarantee protective insurance of Fishman Island, though he would again break free of her control to help Luffy and the others escape Whole Cake without having their souls ripped out. Jinbei may be adamantly loyal to the Straw Hats, but in the past, he was always ready to turn on his superiors if they opposed his ideals and way of thinking.

7Boa Hancock

Hancock’s Trait Of Rebelling Against Her “Masters” Comes From Her Tragic Upbringing

As a previous member of the Shichibukai, Boa Hancock was a pirate who had agreed to answer to the Marines at all times, though she certainly had no problem disobeying and even attacking them during the Marineford War.Hancock’s tragic past life as a slavehas made her weary of anyone who tries to impose their control over her, which explains her refusal to let anyone boss her around.

Even on her island, Hancock always refuses to answer to Gloriosa, despite her being an elder. Of course, Luffy is the sole exception to this trend, but Hancock will simply refuse to answer to anyone else as a survival technique to protect her and the Kuja pirates from being manipulated and taken for granted.

6Fujitora

As Someone Who Knows How Corrupt The Marines Truly Are, Fujitora Has No Problem Disobeying Orders

Fujitora may bean Admiral, but that doesn’t mean he acts as a lapdog for his higher-ups. In fact, Fujitora at times feels like more of a revolutionary with how much he tries to adjust and amend the Marines as an organization from the inside. The biggest example of this is how he spearheaded the campaign to abolish the Shichibukai, which he saw as nothing more than criminals profiting off the protection promised to them by the government.

Akainu may be a rank above Fujitora, but the latter of the two barely ever follows the Fleet Admiral’s commands, always acting on his own accord despite knowing how powerful Akainu is. With that being said, he’s still a Marine at the end of the day and is, therefore, dedicated to freeing the world of terror and piracy, even if it means butting heads with his fellow Marines constantly.

5Yamato

Yamato Dreams Of Escaping Captivity And Freeing Wano From Kaido’s Corruption

It’s easy to understand why Yamato has been rebelling against their father, Kaido, for their entire life when uncovering the truth of how they were raised. Yamato was locked away by Kaido, being treated like little more than dirt by the mighty Yonko when they were still growing up. Kaido would even go as far as to attach a pair of explosive handcuffs to Yamato’s wrists, just in case they had any funny ideas about leaving Wano for good.

Once the raid on Onigashima was finally underway, Yamato would get their chance to stand up to her father one final time, even managing to land a few hits on him during their intense skirmish. As someone who looked up to the legendary Kouzuki Oden, who was known for his brash, wild, and unpredictable behavior, it’s no surprise that Yamato ended up so rebellious, especially considering their parentage.

4Blackbeard

Blackbeard Will Defy All Laws And Norms To Grow His Power

Pirates may be seen as criminals in the world ofOne Piece, but even pirate crews have their codes of honor that members must abide by to establish some sense of equality. On the Whitebeard crew, where everyone is treated as one of the captain’s “sons,” it was established that whoever found a Devil Fruit would be the one to eat it, but after Blackbeard caught the chef Thatch taking theYami Yami no Mi, he murdered his crewmate and fled, taking the fruit with him.

He wouldn’t stop there, as Blackbeard would eventually become a Shichibukai, and almost immediately betrays the Marines by causing a mass breakout in the Impel Down prison as a way to recruit new crew members. Since the timeskip, Blackbeard has been waxing poetic about reaching a “New Age,” and though he’s not above recruiting people to his crew to achieve this, he will never answer to the Marines or the World Government.

3Sabo

Sabo Has Proven He’ll Go To Extreme Lengths To Take Down The Current Status Quo

As the second-in-command of the Revolutionary Army, it makes sense that Sabo would present himself as someone willing to go against the grain to get things done, but it’s staggering how far he’s willing to go to bring down the government. During the Reverie, Sabo puts his life on the line to not only free Kuma but also to learn more about the mysterious Imu, who has been pulling a lot of the strings from behind the scenes.

Sabo has displayed rebellious characteristics ever since he was young and decided to go against hisroyal familyin the Goa Kingdom. Rather than becoming a snobby and pretentious prince, Sabo decided to venture out to sea, and after being raised and trained by Dragon, he would become a huge thorn in the government’s side.

2Monkey D. Dragon

Dragon’s Goal Is To Dismantle The World Government, Bringing About A New Era

Though Dragon has only been shown in small flashes here and there throughout the story, what has been made clear is that he’s determined to see the World Government and Mary Geoise brought down. While pirates are ignoring the government’s rules, the Revolutionariesare directly challenging them, and Dragon is the one leading the charge.

As a result, he’s become one of the Marines' biggest targets, even though his quarrels are more with the people ruling over the Marines, not the soldiers themselves. Dragon has been planning his attacks from behind the scenes, and his actions are putting a lot of pressure on the World Government, making him a true rebel in every sense of the word.

1Monkey D. Luffy

When Nobody Else Is Willing To Stand Up To A Corrupt System, Luffy Can Always Be Counted On To Make Things Right

It doesn’t matter how powerful, influential, or dangerous a corrupt leader may be; Luffy is never afraid to stand up against the system, which has led to him freeing several countries from their sadistic rulers.Alabasta, Dessrosa, Wano, these are just a handful of locations which were terrorized by tyrants who Luffy played a big part in taking down, making him a rebel with a heart of gold.

It’s also pretty common for Luffy to rebel against his crew and allies, as he can always be found running off and getting into trouble whenever Nami or Law are giving out orders. It goes without saying, but as the captain of one of the most infamous pirate crews in the story, Luffy is also lashing out against the harsh ruling of the Celestial Dragons and World Government with every move he makes, often without even realizing it, which is made clear by how worried they gradually become about his influence over time.
