One actress is down to be the nextWonder Womanin James Gunn’s DCU. However, they haven’t thought about what to do once they land the role.
Wonder Womanis one of the most significant superheroes fromDC Comics. The Amazonian warrior princess and daughter of Queen Hippolyta is considered a demigoddess. She is part of the DC Trinity alongside the other two popular superheroes – Superman and Batman. Wonder Woman is also one of the core founders of theJustice League. When James Gunn and Peter Safran became the co-CEOs and co-chairmen of the DC Studios, they decided to reboot the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) by introducing younger and new faces to the DC Universe (DCU). For instance,David Corenswet replaces Henry Cavillas the newSuperman. Fans are waiting for an official casting for the nextBatmanandWonder Woman, who were previously played by Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, respectively. One actress admitted that they were willing to take the mantle from Gadot.
Moon Knightstar May Calamawy appeared at the recent Comic-Con France. At the event, she was asked during the Q&A portion whether she was interested in playingWonder Woman. She gave a positive response after hearing the question.“If they want me to playWonder Woman, I’ll playWonder Woman,“Calamawy responded (via ComicBookMovie). The Egyptian-Palestinian actress admitted that she hadn’t watched Gadot’s movies but saw snippets ofWonder Woman1984. She added that should she land the role, she would want to give it her own take. However, she hasn’t really planned on what to do should the character be offered to her. Calamawy said:
I wouldn’t want to take anything from [Gadot’s] or, like, anyone else’s performance. I don’t even know, I haven’t really thought about what I would do as Wonder Woman.
Several actresses have been cast by fans for the role. Some want Eiza González or Adria Arjona to be the nextWonder Woman. Others prefer to seeThe Outpoststar Jessica Green as the next Princess Diana of Themyscira because she has the height, physique, and beauty to pull off the character. The latter has alsoexpressed interest in playing the role. Gunn previously said that he wasn’t particular about the height of the nextWonder Womanafter an artwork showed thatshe is taller than Supermanand the latter taller than Batman. Gunn said if he followed it, he would have a hard time finding “an accomplished and talented actress 6'5” or over.”
There’s no update on whether DCU is already looking into a newWonder Woman. However, Gunn said that they only hire the best talent. He also confirmed that he doesn’t do open casting calls. While fans wait for the nextWonder Womanfilm, Gunn is working on a live-action prequel TV series,Paradise Lost, which shows Wonder Woman’s history and backstory. Gunn said in November thatthe project is in active development. Gunn also explained that no DC projects are “in production” without being greenlit. They were waiting for a script forParadise Lostso it could move forward, but he assured fans that the anticipated project was “still in very active development.” Since it wasn’t greenlit yet, they haven’t cast anyone for the project.Paradise Lostis expected to be similar toGame of Thronesdrama because it will include political issues, manipulation and power struggles. The series will stream on Max, but there’s no official release date yet.
