Summary
Following its debut at CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures has finally unveiled the latest action-packed trailer forMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, and it certainly looks like the cast and crew are pulling out all the stops for the (potential) final chapter in one of the most iconic action franchises to date.
After a number of delaysdue to the pandemic and a shifting production, Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise’ssequelto the 2023 blockbuster hitMission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Oneis nearly upon us. Marking the eighth installment in theMission: Impossiblefilm series,Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoningis the culmination of nearly three decades of pulse-pounding thrills and shock rubber mask reveals.
“I need you to trust me, one last time”, Hunt implores hisband of fellow Impossible Missions Force (IMF) agentsand allies in the brand-new trailer. What follows is over two minutes of wall-to-wall action, as Ethan Hunt and co. set out on one final globe-trotting mission to try and stop the villainous Gabriel (Esai Morales) and the A.I. weapon “The Entity”. The latest trailer also reveals that the film is set two months afterMission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, with the IMF agent finding himself arrested and in handcuffs. It looks like Hunt’s past is finally catching up with him. Could this be due to what looks like Hunt using a VR headset to potentially connect with—and use—The Entity?
Featuring several significant flashbacks to past installments - including the iconic CIA vault break-in from the first entry, the helicopter stunt fromFallout, and the audacious motorbike mountain jump fromDead Reckoning -the trailer plays out Hunt’s greatest hits. Fans are also introduced to franchise newcomers, includingSeverance’sdancing supervisor Mr. Milchick, aka Tramell Tillman, andTed Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, while a shock reveal hints at Benji’s (Simon Pegg) and Grace’s (Hayley Atwell) potential deaths.
Furthermore, while this entry followsDead Reckoning Part One,there is one crucial element that sets it apart from its predecessor - with director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise avoiding a certain misstep.
The Latest Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Trailer Reportedly Doesn’t Feature The Film’s Most Dangerous Stunt
In what appears to be Ethan Hunt’s last mission- should he choose to accept it - the trailer promises even more death-defying stunts and explosive practical sequences, including a new look at the highly anticipated biplane stunt and the much-teased underwater sequence, with star Tom Cruisepreviously unveiling a tense behind-the-scenes lookat the “challenging” sequence. Despite each entry seemingly featuring even bigger fight sequences and stunt set pieces (with Cruise notably breaking his ankle in one rooftop jumping stunt inMission: Impossible – Fallout), this climactic installment is set to feature its most dangerous yet, and the director and star are reportedly saving the best stunt for release.
While theDead Reckoningtrailer prominently used the movie’s biggest stunt as a major part of the film’s marketing—spotlighting the terrifying motorcycle cliff jump Cruise performed himself—thankfully, the teased action sequence will be saved as a surprise for fans of the franchise.
According toEmpire’s Executive EditorChris Hewitt,Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoningfeatures a stunt involving Cruise that is “so insanely dangerous” that he “yelped” when he watched it.
Whether this really is the iconic character’s swan songremains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that this is one of 2025’s biggest and most anticipated blockbusters. Buckle up for what looks to be one of the more emotional and thrilling installments yet.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoningis scheduled to be released in theaters on July 26, 2025.
