Being the meat and potatoes of so many updates long after it was released, it’s evident how influential and focal suit ‘skins’ are inMarvel’s Spider-Man. Indeed,Marvel’s Spider-Mannearly has it all between costumes that arecomic book-inspired, Sam Raimi and MCU-inspired, and original designs, withMarvel’s Spider-Man 2pedestaling suits even further with additional customization options. There are still costumes that haven’t been adapted or iterated, of course, and Insomniac has outright demonstrated why the suits that aren’t in-game may be as important to note as the ones that are.

Marvel’s Wolverineis presumed to have a costume catalog for its titular mutant as that has become a popular trend in not only theMarvel’s Spider-Manseries but Marvel games in general, and although it’s possible that Insomniac could forgo a suit selection menu tab it may be advantageous to include one regardless. It may be far too soon to be giving serious thought to aMarvel’s Wolverinesequel already; however, if Insomniac has the same foresight with Wolverine that it did with Spider-Man, withholding particularly special costumes for remarkable relevance in the story could be worthwhile.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Saved Its Black Symbiote Suit for a Rainy Day

A colossal implication was made when Insomniac rightfully chose not to feature a symbiote-inspired skin inMarvel’s Spider-Manbecause it knew it would be iterating on it and having itplay a huge role inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Having a black suit inMarvel’s Spider-Manwould’ve diluted that suspense. Even if it chose to feature a one-to-one copy of the suit from the comics asMarvel’s Spider-Man 2also did, having a wider selection all beholden to the sequel gave the alien symbiote a lot more gravitas as a costume, especially with theblack suit adapted from Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man 3.

Interestingly, the idea that a suit being important to the story means it wouldn’t casually or thoughtlessly be available as an alternate, unlockable skin simultaneously suggests that any important comic book run’s costume being featured in-game instantly annihilates the chances of that storyline being adapted. For example,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2having a Superior Spider-Man suitseems to determine that Insomniac will not be adapting that run—unless it does so with a brand-new suit design in mind, at least.

Marvel’s Wolverine Hanging Onto Beloved Looks Could Be Foreshadowing

Wolverine’s costume catalog may not be as lengthy as Spider-Man’s, but there are more than enough iconic suits for him that could have roles of their own in aMarvel’s Wolverinesequel if they don’t make the cut in the original game. Wolverine could logically swap to any number of costumes for story-related reasons in the series, including the following:

The ‘Old Man Logan’ aesthetic and comic run is definitely one of Wolverine’s most popular now, and no game featuring it in order to set up for an eventual adaptation of that story could be phenomenal. Either way, assuming that it will have skins at all, it might be incredibly tellingwhich costumes make it intoMarvel’s Wolverineas well as which ones don’t.

A Weapon X skin would be perfectly reasonable since that experience is far into Wolverine’s past, for instance, while donning the Patch disguise might be a story beat that the game or its sequel gradually and gratifyingly leads into. Otherwise, it will be fascinating to see what original costumes are designed forMarvel’s Wolverineafter they proved to be massively important inMarvel’s Spider-Man, such as whether Logan will get his own take on what an ‘Advanced’ suit may look like or if suits are paramount to Wolverine being able to overcome a flagship villain.
