Marvel Rivalsis still a relatively young game, but it already has a deep roster that can sustain avid players. With every new season, the PvP hero shooter is also adding new playable characters, skins, and maps inspired by decades worth of Marvel Comics and movies. ForMarvel RivalsSeason 2, the game is officially launching Emma Frost as the newest Vanguard.
Based onMarvel Rivals' reveal trailer for Emma Frost, the character has a long-ranged normal attack, while her skills allow her to put up shields and turn her skin into diamond to make herself impervious. Likewise, her Ultimate ability seems to be a shield that can deal damage to multiple foes. But that’s not the only thing thatMarvel Rivalsfans noticed about Emma Frost, as her design looks awfully similar to two other characters.
Marvel Rivals' Emma Frost Has the Same Aesthetic as Dagger and Invisible Woman
Emma Frost has often been depicted as a woman with blonde hair and dressed in white garments with touches of blue in Marvel Comics, so it’s only natural that herMarvel Rivalsmodel followed this design direction. However, Dagger and Invisible Woman are also blonde women wearing blue and white costumes, which could create confusion in matches.
Individually, the heroes have distinct abilities and roles inMarvel Rivals. As mentioned, Emma Frost is a Vanguard who can shield allies in battle.Cloak and Dagger are a Strategist pairthat can deal damage, blind enemies, and heal allies. It’s quite easy to spot Dagger because she can switch to Cloak and back. Invisible Woman is also a Strategist with the ability to shield allies and turn the whole team invisible with her Ultimate. There would be no problem if players encountered at least one of them in their teams or the opposing teams. The confusion would come in if all three women were in play, which could throw off some players, especially during chaotic team fights.
Cloak and Dagger
Invisible Woman
Strategist
It’s easy tocriticizeMarvel Rivalsfor not choosing more unique designsfor Emma Frost, Dagger, and Invisible Woman to make them stand out from each other. But it all boils down to each of the characters' appearances in the comics, and the reality that they do share the same physical characteristics. Their costumes would depend on the artists' vision for a comic, but the white and blue color palette is present most of the time. It would take a keen eye to tell these women apart, both in the comics andMarvel Rivals.
The Solution to Marvel Rivals' Triple Character Confusion Could Be Right in Front of Players
It’s not easy to redesign a character’s default appearance, but one solution thatMarvel Rivalsplayers could do is use skins to avoid any confusion. Emma Frost has an edgy X-Revolution skin, which will be part of a costume bundle worth 1,600 units once Season 2 launches. Invisible Woman also has a variety of skins, ranging from a wedding dress toSue Storm’s Malice form. Lastly, Cloak and Dagger has three uniquely designed skins called Lemon Lime, Growth & Decay, and Twilight Duo. The catch is that many of these skins need to be purchased via the in-game store, while some are available in limited-time skin bundles or season passes.
Of course, using skins wouldn’t be a requirement for everyMarvel Rivalsmatch because players won’t always use all three characters at the same time. This is simply an option for those who don’t want to deal with discerning if they’re looking at Emma Frost, Dagger, or Invisible Woman. Plus, theirMarvel Rivalsskinsare also aesthetically striking, so they’re worth the purchase when players are able to.
