Summary

Marvel Rivalsfans are unhappy with NetEase Games' recent decision to implement a performance-based skill ranking system when determining how many points players are awarded at the end of a Competitive match. NetEase Games recently introduced the Vanguard Emma Frost toMarvel Rivals, who has quickly become a fan-favorite hero due to her durability and versatility.

Marvel Rivalshas been busy making changesto Competitive play, as it recently added an option to report other people for “smurfing.” This is when a high-ranked player creates an alternate account to face off against less skilled foes. This is a fairly common issue in multiplayer games, and is one that can ruin the experience of many gamers. While a large portion of the community likes the idea of minimizing the risk of smurfing, they’re uncertain about the efficacy of reporting such accounts.

In a recent post on Reddit, RivalsHallOfShame asked NetEase Games to revert its decision to implement a performance-based skill ranking system when deciding how many points players get at the end of a match. They stated that the feature is more likely to favorMarvel Rivals' Duelistsand Vanguards, with a particular focus on characters that dish out a lot of raw damage. As a consequence of the new system, many gamers are less likely to fill the Strategist role or choose Vanguards that prioritize damage mitigation over damage. To support their argument, they shared a recent Twitter post from Linepro, a former pro player of games likeValorantandOverwatch.

Marvel Rivals Players Don’t Like the New Performance-Based Skill Ranking System

Linepro shared their own experiences with the new system, pointing out that it’s difficult for a hero likeMarvel Rivals' Adam Warlockto compete with other Strategists like Invisible Woman. While both support characters are capable of contributing to a victory, Adam Warlock is less likely to put out as much raw damage or healing as Invisible Woman, which leads to him being awarded fewer points at the end of a match. He stated that the current system highly favors Duelists, which can lead to lopsided teams where nobody wants to play a support or tank hero.

One person in the comments pointed out that they were originally playingMarvel Rivals' Magnetoat the start of the season but found they weren’t being awarded many points. As a result, they changed to playing The Thing. Despite having a similar performance, they found that they were awarded more points for playing The Thing, leading them to believe the current system is weighted to favor certain roles and heroes. There’s no way of knowing how NetEase Games will respond to the wishes of the community, but it does have a history of reversing unpopular changes. Despite a few recent hiccups, many players are enjoying Season 2 and feel optimistic about the future ofMarvel Rivals.
