Earlier this week, Wario64 posted a quote from Gamespot, which originally claimed that Marathon would be a “full-priced game,” implying that it would cost $70. This statement was soon corrected by Bungie, with the developer confirming that whileMarathonwill be sold as a “premium title,” not a free-to-play game, it will not cost full price. The developer also said that more details will be unveiled during the summer. Considering that other games published by Sony, such asHelldivers 2andConcord, cost $40,Marathonmay choose to do the same.

Marathon Will Be a ‘Premium’ Title, but Not Full-Priced

Bungie recently talked abouthowMarathonwill compete with other popular extraction shooters. The game’s director, Zoe Ziegler, claimed thatMarathonwill not attempt to compete directly withEscape from Tarkov, for example, as offering the same experience would likely only keep players still engaged with the original game instead of trying a new one. The goal is to offer a unique experience that will be compelling enough for mainstream success and differ from other titles in the same genre in creative ways.

Unlike some similar games in the genre, for example,Marathonwill not have proximity chat. According to the developers, this decision was made to create a safe environment for players, and proximity chat may only be added to the game if a solution is found after launch.
