Summary
Avengers: Doomsdayis a hotly anticipated movie from Marvel Studios. The film includes dozens of names from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but more haven’t made it to the list.
Last week,Marvel Studiosdropped several names confirmed to be in the nextAvengersmovie. Among those who will appear inAvengers: Doomsdayare Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Tenoch Huerta (Namor),Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom) and more. The announcement raised eyebrows because it didn’t include the fan-favorite Tom Holland (Spider-Man). Some were also wondering why it didn’t list Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), and Chris Pratt (Star-Lord).
Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, is aware of the reaction from fans. He appeared at the CinemaCon through a video and addressed the issue. According to him, the list wasn’t complete, teasing that more names might appear while the movie is in production. PerScreenRant, Feige said, “We revealed many, not all.” His statement was in congruence with a previous statement revealed on social media. During the cast announcement, Downey Jr. asked on Instagram, after seeing all the names of the cast, “That must be it… right?” Marvel Studios teased that there were more by replying, “There’s always room for more.”
Get Ready For Even More Big Names To Be Added ToAvengers: Doomsday
Feige confirmed that the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Wakandans, and original X-Men will work together against Doctor Doom. The cast announcement included Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and James Marsden (Cyclops) who appeared in Fox’s originalX-Menfilms. Channing Tatum, who made his debut as Gambit inDeadpool & Wolverine, will reprise the role, Lewis Pullman (Sentry), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) were also in the list. Considering Feige’s statement, chances are high that Holland’s Spider-Man will also appear in the movie. Cumberbatch had also previously said he would be part of the nextAvengers, even if his name wasn’t mentioned. Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner could also return to reprise their roles as Bruce Banner (Hulk) and Clint Barton (Hawkeye), respectively, since Feige mentioned the Avengers.
It’s a relief to know that more actors are part ofAvengers: Doomsday, aside from the names that Marvel Studios announced. Among the characters many are looking forward to is Holland’s Spider-Man. His relationship with Tony Stark/Iron Man should add depth to the film’s emotional resonance since Downey Jr. is back, though as a new character. The Russo brothers confirmedthere’s a link between Iron Man’s death and RDJ’s returnthat will shapeDoomsday’sstory. There are rumors that Doctor Doom will use his resemblance to Iron Man.
Whatever the plot may be, there’s an emotional connection between Iron Man and Spider-Man, so having Holland inDoomsdaywould be a great move. Also, Hawkeye and Hulk deserve to be in the nextAvengersmovie. The biggest concern for Marvel Studios is whether everyone will have enough screen time, considering that there are so many of them in one movie.
