Summary

When it comes to the concept of ‘the strongest’, it is one of the central components of the overallJujutsu Kaisenfranchise. From the very first chapter, Gojo and Sukuna offer the perfect dichotomy of two characters whose strength is at the absolute top of everyone else in the story. Though there have been many powerful Jujutsu sorcerers, none have been able to match these two.

But why is that the case? The answer to that has intrigued fans for many years, but the truth of this, other than the clear power gap, is thatthere is a philosophy unique to these charactersthat sets them apart from the rest of the cast ofJujutsu Kaisen. So, in this article, let’s take a look at why Gojo and Sukuna were the ultimate in terms of power in the series, and why no one other than perhaps Yuji has ever come close to them.

Sukuna’s First Appearance

Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 1, “Ryomen Sukuna”

There is no character in the modern state of the anime industry who has taken the world by stormas much as Satoru Gojo. Of course, much of this had to do with the way the character was designed since Gege Akutami really knocked it out of the park by perfectly encapsulating the strongest character in the form of someone so confident and captivating. All of this was reinforced by how strong he was shown to be.

Throughout the series, every single villain and hero always spoke of him in this regard, having to center their entire plans around Gojo, which the villains did in ways that would avoid direct conflict with him. The only other person with as much of an aura of strength and danger surrounding him is Ryomen Sukuna, who is known as the strongest sorcerer in history. When the series started, both of these powerhouses were destined to fight, which they finally did in the Shinjuku Showdown arc.

The battle was fierce, with Sukuna coming out on top, but barely so. The subsequent battles with the rest of the Jujutsu sorcerers showed just how apart these two were from everyone else. Only Sukuna and Gojo could have taken one another on at full capacity, and the main reason for this is their philosophy of life.Due to their unmatched powerleaving them in isolation from everyone, they were able to hone their strength by not having to rely on anyone else, which led to them becoming the strongest of their time. Their approaches to this were different, since Gojo hated being so alone while Sukuna reveled in it, but ultimately, it bred the strongest warriors.

Gojo actively tried to change this mindset in his students. He believed that he and Sukuna were exceptions and that their ways of life were not ideal for others since only they could deal with the loneliness that came with being the strongest, so he believed that he had to foster the strength of his pupils so that they all had each other to rely on, which he and Sukuna never did. By making everyone strong enough, no one would ever have to go through what they did, and everyone could be relied upon to finish the job against someone as strong as the strongest sorcerer in history.

How Yuji Is The Only Person Who May Have Reached Their Level

The Prodigal Sorcerer

The main reason why no one had ever been able to reach the level of Gojo and Sukuna is because none had been through the same trials as them, so they had never needed to hone their strengths to reach their prestigious levels. No one else has had the same level ofexperience against other powerful charactersto challenge them the same way and always had others of similar strength to rely on.

I don’t know how I will feel if I am dead, but I don’t want to regret how I lived!

Yuji is no different, but he may have become the only person on a similar level to Gojo and Sukuna in terms of strength, but has done so by adopting an entirely unique philosophy. Yuji, while he does rely on his friends to help him, has taken on the role of a protector who must use his strength to shield those who cannot do so themselves. Because of this, he is similar to Gojo, so he has become the greatest sorcerer in the world right now, taking on the mantle from his beloved mentor who passed on the responsibility to him at his last moments.
